Well, I finally bothered to go back and tally up my final word count in my attempt to complete the 365k365day challenge (write 1k every day) in my GSheet. I hadn’t counted up December’s count, so with that completed, I can happily announce my final update for last year:

I would love to say I’ll be doing it again, but I can’t with any kind of consistency. It was excellent practice and a good challenge that I just... dropped because of life and work circumstances. Maybe I’ll try again, but it seems an unlikely thing for me to ever be able to do without counting blog posts as part of my writing count. (The above numbers do count blog writing because I feel that is legitimate writing even if it’s not narrative.) So thanks for sticking with me! I’ll be posting some new stories once I get my head out of my post-NaNo slump, which is usually unforgivably long. Soon! Thanks for your support! -Pear

Current Story: The A Team (posted through part six; written through part sixteen) Personal Opinion on Progress: This is good! Not great, but good. I did a lot more blog-article writing than personal writing this month, bored you guys much less with journaling, and the amount of personal days where I wrote not one thing went down from February and March’s 7 to stay consistent with April’s 4. I am not going to beat myself up over this challenge. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I’m not doing this to make the challenge’s goal, I’m doing this to get a better understanding of my writing habits, how much work I put into the Other Blog as opposed to personal writing, and to keep myself out of my often months-long non-writing stints. Soon I’ll have to start planning for being an ML for NaNo this November, and worse yet, I’ll have to start planning Book Four’s events. All I know right now is the main character, the location, and the central idea. Planning for that will slow down physical word count, but it’ll be a lot of mental work. I’m still trying to decide how to measure that. Thanks, Pear out!

I am at more than 100,000 words so far this year. To be entirely straight with you, that’s very nearly--a little less than--twice as much as I have written in any year thus far in my career. Probably 75% of it is crap. Who cares.

Confession: I have been reading The Arabian Nights since October 20, 2012, and I am still only 3/4 of the way through it. If this doesn’t illustrate how slow a reader I am, I don’t know what does. Inexcusable excuse: I have read 37 books since starting it, including A Dance with Dragons, so what it really shows is my lack of attention span.)

Current Story: The A Team (currently unposted; temporary title) Personal Opinion on Progress: My monthly check-in! I did my March check-in over at the other blog (I think?). I’ve increased how far behind I am, but I’ve also increased my average number of words per day, so I guess it’s a wash. I’m proud of what I’ve done, even more proud of Sirensong winning Gem’s March writing contest--that was cool. I expect to continue being behind, but I am a-okay with that. I think these upcoming months I’ll focus on writing outside of the Moonwater series’ world and doing some style-switching. These past couple months have been pretty journal-heavy; I’m only sorry about that because some people followed this blog who weren’t prepared for that non-sense. I won’t feel bad if you leave. I don’t know where you came from--ye who appeared without following the other blog--but thanks for hanging with me and putting up with my weirdo-ness. Thanks, Pear out.

I'm impressed with the amount I have written since normally this time each year I'm still in a post-NaNo slump, but I'm certainly further behind than I should be. As to how often I'm writing, actually, I'm really proud. 8 days off out of 59 is still writing 86% of the time. Not to mention I went on a two week vacation somewhere in there and still managed to write ~300 words or so a day. I'm not planning any more vacations this year, and my Novembers tend to be massive, 2k a day months, so hopefully I can make up for some of this early slacking at that point. And really, with this being my first year trying this pace, I'm doing just fine. This is a baseline year, and I feel okay about that. Thanks, Pear out.

Update: 7,470 words so far this year. Though I know it will technically put me behind, I will not be hitting my personal goal tonight. I am wiped and off to do my own thing tonight. Story of the day: Waiter: "Can I get you anything else?" Dad: "A million dollars." Libby, look at how dumb our dad is. Libby, why. Why is he so dumb. Bless him.
