Any chance of remaining inconspicuous around Sal was long gone when Wadanohara let out a small cry, admittedly shaken by the sudden and out of place jabbing sensation that erupted from the small of her back.
And as the pain settled in, so did the confusion and disarray she felt upon looking at the same man she had been following and taking note of for the past hour. In her eyes, Sal was not quite the same, not in the way she had viewed him previously. It was a strangely remarkable but drastic shift in her perception, only after giving him just one passing glance from the corner of her eye in the process of recollecting herself. But the sudden fondness for him, a strong attachment, and an intimate longing settling on her mind for Sal was what made her do a double take.
He seemed to radiate power and self-confidence, an overwhelming and charming sense of pride that no one else replicated. Beauty and tact were suddenly aspects about Sal that she saw in him, all the while gawking at the shark from across the street with a jaw hung open. Somehow, she couldn't possibly look away for even an instant. He had completely captured her undivided attention without even attempting in that moment, seemingly not even aware of her presence.
She was mystified, entirely enraptured with how mesmerizing he looked with the faint glimmer of the evening sun ghosting over his pale skin. The sun made his red eyes shine, already casting a warm glow across his visage. It was as if she was looking at the ambassador with eyes that were not her own. Under normal circumstances, she would never look at a man who had attempted to destroy her sea, kill her lover, and seek power and control over her as tenderly as she was at that very moment. Those memories appeared to her like faded photographs in her mind, entirely hopeless up against the divinely composed man in front of her.
Nothing about these sentiments made any logical sense, though that thought alone felt distant in comparison to all others festering inside her. The emotions and thoughts were flawed and akin to the static that existed in her brain when she was cursed so long ago, specifically by the man she felt so impossibly attached. However, the scenario at hand wasn't of a magical variety... Right? What was wrong with her? She wasn't supposed to feel this way. Everything about this was wrong.
Revulsion and dread were beginning to settle in, building a home in Wadanohara's heart as old, deceased feelings of self-doubt started to rise. The sea witch had gotten rid of those feelings of uncertainty regarding how she had reacted to Sal's ambitions, goals, and ideals. Everyone around her insisted that she had done everything she could and that nothing was her fault. But in many ways, she felt directly responsible for Sal's betrayal.
Perhaps that was why, against her better judgment and an appropriate longing to sprint in the opposite direction, Wadanohara proceeded to approach him. Her cheeks felt warmer and warmer with each step she took. She clutched her chest and swallowed hard, taking in a deep breath before murmuring:
"Sal... Can we talk?"
