on curiosity - is pearrank open-sourced anywhere? if not, do you have any plans to at some point?
not at the moment, since the first version is flawed on pretty fundamental levels
that is definitely one of my goals for version 2

What is Pearrank?
Since a lot of folks weren't around when I started the project or conducted the first survey, I figured it was worth making a post to summarize what "Pearrank" is all about. Most of this information can also be found in various posts under the #pearrank tag.
As the name suggests, the goal of Pearrank is to rank things in pairs, or rather, ranking fairly large collections of things by getting a group of people make a series of simple either-or choices.
For example, the first survey made people choose which of two random Touhou characters they would rather have as a mother. Collect enough of these votes, and you can draw some interesting conclusions about your voters (like can be found here for the MAMA project).
Status of next survey: revising code, no current ETA.
Since I’m moving to a new, sleeker algorithm, it is very tempting to just throw the whole kitchen sink of cast into the pear ranker.
One one hand, some of these characters just don’t have enough of an existence to form meaningful opinions about,
On the other hand, making someone choose between “anxious mustached village” and an arm is just way too much fun.
Worst case, there’s always a “i don’t know who the hell these people are” button.
Had a thought that pearrank could be made into a shipping survey without too much difficulty
I’m not going to do that, since nothing good could come of it, but just know that it did occur to me
Pearrank MAMA data
For you data nerds, here a paste bin with the per character vote data
Pastebin.com is the number one paste tool since 2002. Pastebin is a website where you can store text online for a set period of time.
It's in CSV format. Have fun with it!

The Least Awful Mother Award
It has been claimed that Touhou has no one in its cast qualified to be a mom. But there are well over 100 characters all told, are there really none fit for the job?
I ran a fancy survey to establish who would be the best and worst mothers in all of Touhou. Below are the ten that people may have actually wanted to have as their mom someday, based on 46k+ votes from 176 participants. Enjoy!
MAMA Drama
Thought I'd share this while I work on the other stuff. This the Drama score, or D-score, for each of the participants in my Touhou MAMA ratings. It's basically a measure of disagreement among participants (i.e. lots of people rating them mid-mom would be low drama, while half high and half low ratings would be high drama, even for the same overall winrate).
I found it really interesting who made it high on the list. See if you notice any patterns.
For a technical explanation, Drama is the standard deviation of individual user ratings (aka, winrates for each user), scaled to be approximately 1-10.
