“Good job out there,” Peter told him, mouth half-full of rice. He hadn’t thought anything of it, and wouldn’t have, if Wade hadn’t frozen up the way he did. It was a split-second reaction, one that probably would’ve gone unnoticed to most people, but Peter is not most people. He caught it, and he was curious.
“You could’ve easily killed some of his guys,” Peter clarified, when Wade didn’t reply. “But it’s good that you didn’t.”
Wade laughed and leaned back on his palms, watching the sunset. “Didn’t wanna piss you off. You woulda got this kicked puppy look and told me how unnecessary it was and probably gone home instead of agreeing to dinner. Really brings the mood down, y’know?”
Peter snickered, lightly shoving at Wade’s side. “Just take the compliment. I’m proud of you.”
