So I just finished the onion method listen of Friends at the Table. Forgive me for a moment friends, this one is gonna be sappy.
This has been a wild and crazy year for me in so many ways, like I know it has been for so many people, and I'm so glad that I had this equally crazy re-listen of my favorite podcast to get me through it. Since I started listened 3 years ago, Friends at the Table has always been highly motivational for me and encouraged to keep working on improving myself and fighting for what I believe in. That has been more difficult for me this year for a number of reasons and I can honestly say there were times I went to bed and didn’t want to wake up in the morning.
I know that this method was originally created to be a fundamentally silly and impractical listening order, but there was something so right about laying on my couch just now and hearing the cast wrap up not just this season, but my year, with the Falling Asleep, Waking Up ‘montage’.
Around the start of October, I had a lot of heavy stuff going on in my life and I cried when I finished Spring in Hieron because on top of all my stuff it felt like an ending - and a rather bittersweet one at that. But I’m so glad that my year didn’t end there.
Tonight, I closed a season off my life with what I would argue is one of the most hopeful season finales I’ve experienced across a variety of media. And I’m excited to wake up in the new year, not really knowing what the year is going to bring.
Shout out to @peel-the-onion, you really hit it out of the park on this one. Thank you.
(PS. I’ve already scoped out how long into 2022 it will take me to tack Road to Partizan and PARTIZAN onto this so hit me up if you’re interested. RtP & PZN are about the same length as Twilight Mirage in elapsed minutes so my current schedule stretches out to the first week of April.)
