During the 1950s, car makers in the US realised that women were making many car-buying decisions. General Motors commissioned women who worked in the styling departments across all of their divisions to come up with ideas that might appeal to women buyers. The 1958 Oldsmobile Super 88 Fiesta "Carousel" was designed by GM designer Margaret (Peggy) Sauer, who made the station wagon’s interior more kid-friendly with storage for toys in the back of the front seat.
