Start where you are. This is very important. Meditation practice is not about later, when you get it all together and you're this person you really respect. You may be the most violent person in the world --that's a fine place to start. That's a very rich place to start-- juicy, smelly. You might be the most depressed person in the world, the most addicted person in the world, the most jealous person in the world. You might think that there are no others on the planet who hate themselves as much as you do. All of that is a good place to start. Just where you are --that's the place to start.
Pema Chödrön
We can suppress anger and aggression or act it out, either way making things worse for ourselves and others. Or we can practice patience: wait, experience the anger and investigate its nature. ~ Pema Chödrön . The Six Realms of Samsara in Tibetan Buddhism are represented in the Wheel of Life thangka painting.

Compassion #2
Remember that when we harden our hearts against anyone, we hurt ourselves. The fear habit, the anger habit, the self-pity habit - all are strengthened and empowered when we continue to buy into them.
The most compassionate thing we can do is to interrupt these habits.
Instead of pulling back and putting up a wall we can make a compassionate aspiration.
E.g. Visualise this difficult person’s face and say his name , then say the words:
“ May this person who afflicts me be free from suffering and the roots of suffering”.
By doing this we begin to dissolve our fear.
This gesture of compassion begins to unlock our ability to hear the cries of the world.
