I have just seen this! thank you so much, messages like this genuinely make me feel so nice!!!!!!!! also thank you for liking my penmanship, every single teacher, friend, and person around me have said it's illegible, to a point where I had to take time and slow down so my papers get marked properly!!!!!! personally I think it's aesthetic in a messy mad scientist kind of way, so thank you for encouraging me!!! so to my fave pens, right to left!

this is a random Kenyan brand I would kill for. I love these, I used them as replacement for my pilot pens when I couldn't find any, and I love them. 10/10. a pen is worth like a dollar/euro (idk I use kenya shillings)

pilot g2 0.7 [basic fave]

I love these, I can't even say anything against them, I just love them, they are pretty expensive based on where I live (kenya), but when they stopped being imported - even now you cannot find them here, I felt it in my heart

muji gel pen 0.7 [I own three of these in total]

I bought these when I went to India, and I use them exclusively for the planner in the photo. I love the way they glide and are so pretty.

this one is a fave bc I like how it looks, solid for smaller notes, and just all in all a comfy pen to carry around, make random notes with. I like it for side notes in my actual like academic work, as well as novel annotations - I did my extended essay on the god of small things (arundhati roy) and all my notes and analysis in the margins are by this pen)

bought these on amazon India, fantastic pens. I love them, I use them for subheadings, margin notes, side calculations, marking, annotations, etc. the nib is perfect for smaller writing, and the variety of colours allow solid solid contrast - these are in a lot of my posts I think

Here are some drawings I’m sending to a group show in LA. I think it’s February 25- it’s at Giant Robot. I’ve been drawing digitally for the past few years so the idea of making sketches for sale is kinda funny when I don’t make drawings like that anymore. I have to say, that I think it’s kinda tedious and that every drawer should buy themselves a tablet and draw on that. It was however interesting to see what drawings look like with different tools. For black I used a Prismacolor Premiere fine liner. Someone online was like “This is the greatest pen!” so I bought a four pack for $13 online. Really easy to use and I guess it’s archival. It’s great, and it’s pretty clean. I filled some of the large black spaces with that but sometimes switched to the black Posca. I used a Gelly Roll 08 white for the drawings on black copy paper. This is a very non-archival drawing bc I think the white flakes over time and the black fades over time in direct sunlight. The 3D pen I use is just some generic pen that gets repackaged by different companies. They make you spent $6-$10 for a pack of 5 various colors but the only good one is the 3D pen.  It doesn’t last long but it does look cool. You easily can buy one at the dollar store. It takes a bit of concentration to use this pen because you have to have both tips touching the paper, and you have to angle it at 45° otherwise your lines will just hit each other a lot and you’ll start smearing the colors together. I have to focus on the tip of the blue and zone out the pink in order to draw properly. The rainbow pencil I use is called “Black Pal” which seems kind of a fucked up name but it runs really smooth for a $1 pencil from China. I once bought a pack of 96 color pencils for $12 and they were the most unfun box of pencils- it took a lot of work to make them move.

recommendations for gel pens that DO NOT smudge under highlighters? i use the pilot g2 pens currently but they smudge sooo badly.

My experience ordering from them was great. They take Paypal so you can feel safe ordering online and their inventory is impressive. I got everything within the specified shipping window (~a month) but it all came in multiple packages so some things came far earlier than others which was really just a happy surprise!

Now, on to the items!

Fox Pencil Pouch - $6 - This thing holds so. much. I love the print and the material used is durable and hasn’t stained, cracked, faded, torn, or anything since I’ve got this in November. The only wear-and-tear visible are a few wrinkles on the material and a few loos threads on the inside seams and along the zip (which btw has had no problems). There isn’t any inner lining but a couple of pens have leaked a little on the inside but you can’t tell at all from the outside. Overall: 9/10

My Pencil Case - $5 - This is smaller than the fox pouch and great for daily use. I love the design (so simple and funny!) BUT the white does show a lot more wear. There are a few scratches and random marks and a tiny “chip” in the material but still pretty good since I have taken it out nearly every day for the last 6 months. There is a black alternative which would fix all these problems. The zipper works great and there is a darker inner lining. It also holds a lot more than expected! Overall: 8/10

10 pack Skinny Candy Washi - $6 - First off, the colors were not as pictured. I got slightly darker versions of them and a lot more greens. I didn’t really care but I know others might. The washi themselves are pretty good, slightly less sticky than other washi but that could be because they are skinny. The box they came in like collapses in transit but eh the washi was fine! They’re what you pay for. Overall: 7/10 

Cheeky Black Cat Gel Pen - $2 - Needle-point, roughly 0.38, with somewhat uneven ink flow. It doesn’t break but the lines do get thinner every once in a while; this gets better as you use it! I personally feel like the pen overall is too light but it’s still useable. I primarily like it for the cat ngl aha. I don’t think this would be a daily use pen. Overall: 6/10

Floral Paper Sticker Set - $3 - Some of the designs are not as pretty as the others but most I love. There are also a few with sayings that I still haven’t touched (like, “Happy Day” or “Thank you!”) that I didn’t think would be in there so just fyi! They stick great, can’t be removed, and aren’t removable so make sure you like where you place it! They’re also glossy so not all oens can write on them. Overall: 8/10

Pomegranate (I can’t find it anymore) - Donut - Black Floral - $3 - These washi’s aren’t the stickiest but they work well on paper, not so well on other materials or waxy paper. I loveee the designs so so much and am definitely getting more. Overall: 9/10

Can't really find any comprehensive sites. Really getting back into handwriting and stuff again, got a new bullet journal and I'm starting to get into revision mode - so non-smudge pens and an ink free hand would be amazing!

which do you think is a better fountain pen for a beginner, a Pilot Prera or a Platinum Balance?

Although Pilot is my favorite brand of fountain pen, I would actually go with the Platinum Balance for a beginner. I think it’s a bit more sturdy and more of a traditional fountain pen, works well with a converter, and the nibs will be good for someone who is just starting out. The Pilot nib will probably be finer, but I just love the Balance as a whole pen. Hope this helps!

Hi Emma! I want to give my best friend a fountain pen set as a gift. He's completely new to fountain pens but wants to try it so bad, so I thought that could be the perfect present for christmas. He has a thiner handwriting and loves darker blue inks. Do you have any recommendations for fountain pens, inks, paper or notebooks? I know what I would like, but I'm not sure if a completely newbie would like it. What do you think would be a good starter kit?

Hi! So for a pen I would recommend a Pilot Metropolitan in Fine, I think it’s a great pen for anyone starting out. To use bottled ink you will also need to buy a convertor. The Metropolitan is a pretty classic looking pen, if you wanted something a little more fun perhaps a TWSBI Eco in Fine or Extra Fine.

As far as inks, either De’Atramentis Atlantic Blue, De’Atramentis Sherlock Holmes, or a blue Diamine ink (but not a shimmering ink!). 

As far as paper, a notepad from Rhodia is great for pages you can tear out. For a bound notebook I like Rhodia/Clairefontaine, Leuchtturm1917, and Apica.
