Unfortunately I do not have an extensive list of TCF fics to recommend because TCF is one of the rare few fandoms I’m still navigating myself trying to find what really is my jam. I don’t particularly ship anyone at the moment (hahaha oh the irony of being a reader imagine writer) and so you’ll find that all the fics recommended lean more towards character studies and platonic relationships than romance. Because honestly, those are the fics that I’ll always dig. ( ´ ▽ ` ).｡ｏ♡
and so without further ado.. my list...
“and so he coughs flowers made out of blood” by @sudenishindeiru (AO3) immediately comes to mind when someone asks me for TCF fic recs. Anyone who is a fan of the Hanahaki disease trope will definitely enjoy this fic. For those new to the trope, it’s literally a disease that takes form when the victim suffers from one-sided love. Cale our drama queen loves taking things to the next level and is actually dying because he can’t get his slacker life. It sounds like crack-fic but it’s not. It’s a deep and moving study into KRS’s character and how he pushes through the pain of distancing himself from his dreams to make the world a slightly better place. It’s truly a poetic piece and everyone should read it. And no worries. Cale gets his happy ending.
“Hello Author, NPC Cale is Suffering“ also by sudenishindeiru is a more lighthearted piece and on the fun side. If you know Pokemon then you’ll also enjoy this cute crossover fic where Cale transmigrates into the game as a NPC and still struggles to find a peaceful life.
Honestly, I’d recommend any TCF fics by sudenishindeiru! They have great writing style and have many amazing TCF fic ideas rolling about on their blog.
“Found Family” by @o0phylyra0o (AO3) is a short oneshot piece that can be treated as a character study of Kim Rok Soo. Just the right amount of angst and fluff that’s easy to read.
I rarely read AO3 fics that aren’t completed but I’ve come across @pendwelling‘s (AO3) fic “frame the halves and call them brothers” which is a retelling of TCF with both OG!Cale and KRS!Cale as twin brothers. Their characterisation is on-point and I’m looking forward to seeing where they’ll take the story. (not only can they write but they also draw???? what more can you really ask for honestly? godsend to the fandom)
If you’re waiting for Reader Insert recommendations.. unfortunately one of the reasons why I have started writing for TCF was because I couldn’t find any Reader Inserts for TCF ( ╥ω╥ ) please tell me if you guys know of any other tcf reader insert writers
