Penmarch is located on the coast of Brittany. I believe Penmarc'h is the Breton spelling. You can see l'Église Notre-Dame-de-la-Joie in the background.
You may have noticed that I have a thing for the depictions of seaweed gatherers. Up until the 1950s, thousands of wagonloads of seaweed were gathered on the French coast each year to extract the potassium within for use in the glass and soap industries and for the manufacture of gunpowder.
