This is the place I called home for the past year. It is where I met amazing people and created multiple families. Where I laughed, cried, stressed, broke down, grew, and celebrated life. Last night, sitting in an empty room, made all of the memories flash back- dance parties, sleepovers, naps, all-nighters, hearts-to-hearts, confessions, hair cuts, NSO, fling, every weekend, online shows and movies, and work on work on work. I'm going to miss it, but the people that made it beyond amazing are coming with me.
I left today and ended up at an airport hotel before my flight back to Miami on Friday. At 6AM when the rainy sky became bright, I walked the sidewalks and looked around. My chest expanded with the pressure of the memories and I smiled.
Penn15. I formed part of the zero!
NSO Day Four. Bring it.
OH MY GOD I LOVE COLLEGE
It's just so....quintessentially college-y.
I moved in, and I must say, my room looks awesome, despite being tiny. I have a photo collage over my bed, and it's adorable.
My hall mates are so sweet and cool. And they're all so chill and unintimidating. Perfect.
I chilled with the Philomanthean Society, which was really amazing. A lot of really interesting, super nerdy and awkward guys. Mostly graduate students, which is actually kind of cool. The library they have is amazing and the whole old-classic-Ivy-League vibe of the group is sort of awe inspiring and exciting. I am joining.
And even though literally all four parties I went to got shut down almost as soon as I got in, it was still fun. And supposedly the cops chill out after a few days.
I think I will be very happy here. :)
AHHH 7 MORE DAYS TILL I LEAVE FOR COLLEGE!
I really can't wait! There are so many things I'm looking forward to. As the date gets closer and closer I find myself finding more and more distinctions between what it means to be "free" and what it means to be "independent."
Miami, I have all the freedom I want.
Penn, I will have an independent life.
I absolutely cannot wait!
Freshman 15 - Society's Lies
People are rude. I mean, so many people feel the need to remind me of the infamous "Freshman 15". They say "Oh when do you leave for college? Get ready for that freshman 15!" I love it when overweight people tell me this, oh the irony. But seriously, is the freshman 15 really all that bad? It's better than losing 15 pounds because you're so worried that your German professor, whose words you cannot understand, is going to fail you for your class about ant hill societies. Look at Cornell, they have enough problems with depression already. Eating means happiness, and happiness is a good personality for the student body. You may as well eat as much as you can while at college. If you're paying $60,000 a year for school, like I am, take advantage of that huge buffet they offer you. Eat your $60k's worth of food. You deserve it. What makes me mad the most is that the phrase "freshman 15" could be applied to a myriad of things. Seriously. It takes 15 days for freshmen to be adjusted to their new surroundings. Freshmen suddenly extend their school hours to 15. 15 weeks of school. Our favorite college class, Penn'15. Making 15 new friends a day. 15 credits because you're so darn scared at the prospect of actually doing school work for the first time in your life that you decide to play it safe. This includes taking a PE credit in breathing exercises that is worth 3 credits. Here's to rebelling against society's norms and dogmatic and repressive blankets. Here's to gaining 15 pounds of wisdom, experience and happiness. Here's to waking up and running every morning (even though it's because you're late every time for class). Here's to being freshmen!
