Game 107: Rays 2 Red Sox 1
The battle is now on! After a great game last night at Fenway that had a little bit of everything, from big missed calls, to random pop Home Runs, to a great pitching effort, the Rays and Red Sox having officially kicked off there 2013 rivalry.
Up to this point the teams have been very competitive but you could tell thatsomething was brewing, but after last night’s game it has officially kicked this rivalry into a new gear and set up a great pennant race. We can rewind to the 8th inning last night. David Price was throwing a gem and the Rays led 2-1 after a home run by Brandon Snyder of the Red Sox hit off the Pesky Pole. In the 8th the Sox had runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out when Brandon Snyder hit a fly ball caught by Sam Fuld. After catching the ball, Fuld threw it home trying to throw out Daniel Nava. Nava slid in at home and looked safe and to everyone’s surprise was called out by home plate umpire Jerry Meals (Meals admitted to being wrong after the game). This pretty much ended all of the Sox hopes and they lost 2-1.
So the teams headed back to their clubhouses with the Rays now holding a half game lead over the Red Sox. That is when things got real interesting as the teams had what we like to call “twitter beef." The Rays fired off first saying “Dear @redsox your scoreboard operator- your standings are wrong, yours truly @raysbaseball." However, the Red Sox were not to be out done as they quickly fired back with there own message to the Rays, “Don’t Worry @raysbaseball we look forward to seeing you in Tampa in September for our home games at the Trop." Ouch that had to hurt, but for now these are just words…..The Battle has now begun!
