Letter to Spredfast: Extremely Proud of What We’ve Created & Best of Luck
Here's my letter to Spredfast last spring. It is an homage to Andrew Mason's letter to Groupon (which I think was a great example of modern corporate communication and also one of the most sincere letters written):
After five intense and wonderful years as the CEO and CSO of Spredfast, I’ve decided that I’d like to spend more time with my family. Just kidding – I started a new company. Although I am no longer involved with the daily management of Spredfast, I’m not completely going away. My ugly mug will remain on the company website. My email will continue to work. I will have a desk in the new office till the end of the year. And finally, I will remain on the board of directors.
Many of you have inquired about why you haven’t seen me around the office in 2013…well you haven’t had a beer with me lately. From being fully vested to our emphasis on “execution over innovation”, my level of excitement about the company is not at the levels of where it once was. Spredfast is a different place today - both literally and figuratively. As I said in the 2012 company kick-off meeting, I love the 0-50 (people) or the entrepreneurial phase of a company when you create a product from an idea. The pace of innovation is faster, the impact of each member of the team is amplified and you sell the vision with intellect, transparency and trust. I miss that.
For those who are concerned about me, please don’t be – I love Spredfast. I’m OK with leaving it. I had a dream and you helped make it come true. I’m extremely proud of what we’ve created. You are doing amazing things. I am the co-founder of Spredfast and no one can take that away.
P.S. Please feel free to use my desk when I’m not there. Leave me a suggestion / observation / joke / burn in the top drawer.
I started my next company called People Pattern. People Pattern is focused on audience segmentation using advanced analytics and social business intelligence. Please feel free to email me at [email protected].
