hello! it is i, your secret santa c: it's nice to finally meet you, omg!! i hope you like your ficlet-present-thing c: it's more samjess because yaknow
samjess
Sam's first (and only) Christmas with Jess is still one of the best things that ever happened to him (which is sort of sad when you think about it) but then again Jess herself was one of the best things that ever happened to him, so.
As Christmases go, it was actually kinda shitty by normal standards - they were struggling college students and they barely had money to buy each other presents in the first place, much less decorate the apartment. They ended up with a couple milk crates strung with lights, and Jess laughed at him when he complained he wanted to do something better for their first Christmas.
"Look at it this way," she'd said, "at least it'll be memorable."
The fact that his immediate thought after that was we can tell our kids the story and they'll laugh at us and it can be a Christmas tradition probably should have scared him. It didn't. Not in the least.
(They did splurge on mistletoe, even though he'd never needed excuses to kiss her before.)
She proclaimed it the best Christmas ever, baby, half asleep on their threadbare couch after drinking probably too much eggnog whenever an effect was too cheesy in the old stop-motion Christmas movies.
"You're serious?"
"Stupid," she muttered, "weren't you payin' attention to the Grinch? 'S not about what's under the tree. 'S about me 'n you, Sam." She shifted closer to him. "You're wi' me. Tha's all I need to be happy."
He couldn't say anything through the lump in his throat. "Yeah." he croaked out eventually, but she was already asleep.
He pressed a kiss to her temple and fell asleep as quickly as she had.
Nine o'clock and the blinds were still closed. It was one of the things Sam loved the most about his new life. In his mind, which was not very far from reality, the word "father" was an equivalent not to family and comfort but to military traning, obedience, rules and consequences if they weren't followed. If there was one thing his father never let him do it was to get up at nine. Up before the sun was the way.
The alarm clock rang and a warm, gentle hand pressed the snooze button. Her blonde hair covered her face as she groaned.
'Why do we even have that thing? It's Christmas, there's no schedules.'
Sam lifted his head from the pillow slowly, eyes still half-closed, and gently pushed her hair from her face and kissed her.
'I love you too.' They kissed again and he did the same thing he did every morning. He just sat there for a while looking into her eyes for a bit before getting up from bed. They were the most beautiful eyes he'd ever seen in his life.
Their days during Christmas were all pretty much the same, enjoying as much time as they could together, smiling until their cheeks hurt. But that day was different. The phone rang.
'Hello?' - there were still traces of laughter in Sam's voice. 'Yes, Mrs. Winchester is here, I'll pass her the phone.'
Jess talked for a short while and then started hopping like a little girl after hanging up.
'The tree is here!'
It was finally it. The best day of the year. It was officially Christmas, and that lifted Sam's soul so much not only because of the presents and spending the holidays with his wife, but also because it was the exact opposite of his childhood. Christmas was everything his family wasn't. Happiness. time together, dedication without the violent protection... it was everything he'd always wished for, and it was happening with her. Sam's life was perfect.
The tree was already in place when Jess came into the living room holding two boxes of Christmas decorations. The merry couple turned on the TV and watched a movie while they decorated the tree. In the end it looked so beautiful. Sam was going to put away the empty boxes when Jess stopped him.
'Ahem. Aren't you forgetting anything?' she smiled and pointed up, to the ceiling above them. 'Mistletoe.'
They giggled and kissed once again. Sam held her as tight as he could, wishing that moment lasted forever. Jess hugged him and asked him about who they were having over for Christmas Eve.
'Well...' Sam answered with small words in between kisses. 'I think it could be just the two of us this year.'
Their married life had a whole other meaning for him but none of them could get enough of the thought that they were actually married and living together and all those things so many people take for granted. They were as happy as they could be and nothing could ever change that.
They spent the rest of the morning sitting on the couch watching Christmas movies. Sam ran his hand across her arms, tracing her birth marks and promising himself he'd never forget a single one. Sometimes when he closed his eyes he'd still see some memories of when he was a kid. He never met his mother, but from he'd heard about her, she looked a lot like Jess. It comforted and worried him at the same time. 'Mom would like Jess', he said to himself sometimes. He didn't have any grounds to say it, he had no idea if it was true, but it somehow felt right.
It was only after he escaped from his family life that he realized how little you can do in a day. And it was so much better than working.
thank you and noelle both so much! i actually just managed to fix it, i was missing a someplace and i didn't realize c: but thank you both for helping, you're both amazing ♥

tonysttark replied to your post “hello! i have the same theme as you and i'm fairly sure i have the same kind of updates tab, but when i put the tab in the other day something messed up with the hovering, and the text appears even if you're not hovering the tab with your mouse. i was just wondering if you ever had a similar problem? (also, if your updates tab is from somewhere other than the key tutorial, that might explain it too.) anyway, thanks!”
is it just the text or the whole tab that's showing? i could look at it and see if i can fix it, i may know the problem :)
it's the whole tab from what i saw. it appears whenever the mouse is on the page. if you move the mouse up to the url bar or whatever, it disappears. or at least, that's what it did when i was on the page :)
