SF is like a mystery where the world and the history of the world is what’s mysterious, and putting that all together in your mind is as interesting as the characters and the plot, if not more interesting. We talk about worldbuilding as something the writer does, but it’s also something the reader does, building the world from the clues. When you read that the clocks were striking thirteen, you think at first that something is terribly wrong before you work out that this is a world with twenty-four hour time—and something terribly wrong. Orwell economically sends a double signal with that.

Actually okay question because I think this is a fun personality test, but my friend and I made a "laundry pact" during our fourth year of college where I would do both loads of laundry (involved carrying laundry up and down ~5 flights of stairs and changing it from the washer to the dryer - once for each of us), and she would fold both loads of laundry. We both thought we were getting the better end of the deal with this, and asking other people it's interesting to see that there doesn't seem to be a clear consensus, so I'm curious what you guys think.
Which end of the laundry pact sounds better to you?
Running both loads of laundry (including carrying them there and back)
Folding both loads of laundry
Let me know what your reasoning is!
I genuinely love how anytime you make a post about using Horatio Hornblower for your own mental health every single other Hornblower fan on this website comes out of the woodwork and goes "me too". Chew toy of a man for people with anxiety and other such things we're all in this together
"Tumblr could be the new PDF" not ambitious enough. Tumblr could be the new Zotero. Tumblr could be the new Hypothesis
I truly wish that there was a way of conveying to people who have only watched Hornblower TV Show just how well-adjusted it seems in comparison to the books (especially the later books oh my god) but then again it pays off when every once in a while when you get to see a TV Show Fan start to read the books and go "oh WOW not only did you guys not lie but nothing you could have said would prepare me for just how unhinged this is"
I love his stupid burgundy hair tie this is almost better than straw hat moment
