I wish I could see it.
The ground carpeted with flowers.
Maybe if we can see it someday, together...
He woke to the sound of a thousand taps dripping - or, at least, that was all he could equate the noise to. They didn’t have that many faucets in the laboratory though, and surely not all of them would have been leaking.
Then what was he hearing?
It was sluggishly that Yuu opened his eyes, his body shivering against a chill that left goosebumps across his back. His front, however, was pleasantly warm by comparison - had he and Alma fallen asleep in the cold chamber... ? No, that couldn’t have been. They’d left the lab, he remembered.
They’d left after Alma had killed everyone.
A sharp breath was taken in at the memory of bodies littered across the cold chamber floor, pulled apart and leaking red. A lingering ache in his belly reminded Yuu that he hadn’t escaped unscathed either, that they he had nearly joined the mass grave that they’d left - and yet, he’d convinced his friend with one, delirious and desperate plea for Alma to change their mind.
Let’s get out of this place.
Let’s run far away, Alma.
And so they had, though Yuu had been all but carried by the other child, due to the severity of his own wounds. They’d gone as far as Alma’s legs could carry them, and only here had they stopped, when his friend could go no farther - a tiny, damp cave that held just enough room for them to huddle together for warmth as the sun had set and sleep had taken them. The sound outside of their shelter now drew Yuu to sit up, however, his gaze shifting to the small opening with eyes that were still heavy with sleep. They widened slightly, however, as he saw something falling outside in thick drops.
Coaxed away from Alma’s warm form, Yuu crawled towards the opening, brows furrowing in a mixture of fascination and confusion. Tentatively, he extended his hand out past the entrance - and almost immediately, jerked it back with a gasp of surprise, drawing his appendage to his face so that he might examine the drops that had landed on it.
Water. There were drops of water rolling down his palm, and Yuu found himself staring with wide eyes. Why was there water falling from the sky... ?
“Alma.” The boy turned back towards his sleeping friend now, reaching out to set a hand on their leg and jostle them a little. “Alma, wake up - you’ve gotta come see this! C’mon, wake up!”
