IM SO PROUD OF MY PONY! (And me too tbh)
I’ve always wanted to do more trail work and to casually ride out in the cross country field but I’ve always been to nervous to go by myself so have hardly ever gone. But after a really good trail ride last Saturday I decided that I would really work on it.
On Monday after our dressage lesson I went to to walk her over the bridge to the trails and cross country field and she did it! Previously by herself she would stop and back up and just kind of refuse to go over it, but since we had just done it two days ago we had no problems! And…. Then we couldn’t go past the house. So I hopped off and led her past it and into the cross country, used a log to hop back on and completed a loop, walked back over the bridge gave her cookies and called it a day.
Tuesday I started with our adventure (I was worried it would get dark) and she needed a lot of encouragement plus some crop taps to get over the bridge but then walked past the house no problem. And then got spooked by a large stump? Turned around backed up and kept backing up and started backing up going off the travel down into the ditch so I hopped off walked her to the cross country for back on from the ground walked her thru the field a little and then went back. We then went back to an arena for the rest of the ride.
And then today! She went right over the bridge and all the way to the field. We did some walk circles and then we trotted! She was a little looking but calm so we just did lots of meandering serpentines and circles and she was so good! I found a big flatish part and had her do one canter circle each way and she so so so good! She was a little forward at the trot for the second direction to start but I think just anticipating the canter but she settled and then was so good! So she got cookies and we just went back. I was barely on her for like 30 minutes but it was everything I wanted! I mean look at her!
I’m so excited to ride her in the cross country more and maybe even take her on the trails! My only regret is not committing to really working on it sooner but it was just always easier (and less scary) to just ride in the arena. But I’m excited and think it will be good for her and me 😊
And while I’ve had like one lesson on the cross country and walked around there with others this was first time going by myself (there were other horses around at various points just not with us). And I’m so proud and happy that I finally did it. I was always jealous of the people who would just casually go out there to ride and now I can become one of them. Thanks to my perfect pony 😍
