Would you pay $200 to have a machine pour beer for you? What if it used science to create a silky smooth head just like your favorite brews on tap, minus the heavy gas canisters and equipment?
Fizzics uses sound waves to create tiny, uniform bubbles, much like the effect of brews served with nitrogen. The difference being that you can use any canned, bottled, or growlered (growled?) beer instead of needing a system of tap lines and kegs. Upon first glance I was extremely skeptical (anything claiming to “elevate the beer drinking experience” typically sends up red flags for me) but after reading through the extensive scientific-y info on their campaign page I’m rather more intrigued by the idea.
At the time of writing the campaign has secured over $75,000 in funding on Indiegogo, easily surpassing their goal of $50,000. They’re offering early bird units for $119 +shipping, with the retail price being $200 once the campaign is over.
What do you think? Interesting and compelling idea or overpriced, overly specialized kitchen gadget?
The Perfect Pour
so i always do the perfect pour with macaroni
no strainer necessary homie, just watch
Standing over the sink, i tip the steaming pot
with one hand and watch the boiling water pour
into the sink while the noodles expertly lay
at the bottom, not stuck but heavy enough,
writhing and slippery but not one jumps out the pot
into sink or out into the steamy air to zip
across the counter and onto the floor like a jumping bean.
the only thing that does jump is a small droplet of scalding hot water
it splashes up from the sink and into my eye in a perfect arc as if
it were a tiny arrow let loose from the bow of an indian in my cupboard.
I let out a squeal with the sting and cup my eye with my free hand.
the other remains steady and still. i lose no noodles.
every last one is eaten and sent to a heinous watery grave.
