The Demon's Regime || Royal Twins AU - Hideki & Hajime
Approximately three months had passed since the message of the former king's sudden death had haunted every single soul that resided in the country of Dustein and every bordering province, spreading like a wave of chaos that drowned everyone not strong enough to swim through the sudden amount of despair displayed everywhere.
The death of the currently ruling monarch had been less shocking to the public than the circumstances under which his liveless body had been found, and that the man who had still been in the best years of his life certainly didn't die of old age.
Found with a silver knife plunged into his chest, laying in a pool of his own blood inside of his very own chamber had been the incident that had caused panic and a constantly spreading unrest which had taken several weeks to decrease again, in which the country stood still, as if every single resident of it died together with their beloved monarch.
It was an endless mourning for the man that had lead their homeland through many peaceful years, ruling with an iron fist and a kind heart that constantly worried about nothing but the safety of the people that looked up to him.
Not a single soul in the entire realm had wanted an abrupt end for the generous soul leading them, especially not if it was executed in such a cold and downright cruel way.
Roughly two weeks had passed since then and yet there wasn't a single piece of evidence pointing toward the perpetrator that still hid themself in the darkness.
However, rumors about a possible declaration of war from foreign countries had further unsettled the masses, believing that ending their monarchy would eventually shatter the country's independence, leading toward an unfortunate takeover of whoever wanted this rich piece of green with stable economics and a decently weaponed guard.
Dustein found itself in a circle of despair unable to break no matter what until the fortunate day, roughly one month after the incident, on which the next ruler of the realm had officially ascended the throne, leading his followers and everyone living underneath his command into a new era, ruled by the eldest son and legitimate heir to the former king's throne.
Hajime Hinata was a young man with dreams, full of energy and ambition to carry them out as soon as he was allowed to step into his father's footsteps and gain the power he needed to fulfill his creative visions.
The day the crown was handed over to him the turmoils seemed to settle almost instantly, overwhelmed by the hopeful expectations the subjects had of their beloved prince, whose time it finally was to step forward and deposit the mask of innocence he had worn until that very day.
He neither had the time nor patience to pretend any longer - he had to rebuild the country after his liking, create a home grand and marvellous enough to fit his unsatisfiable greed and arrogance.
Over the course of three months in total, Dustein's climate had went through a dramatic change unlike anything it ever saw before.
Oppression and a selfish absolutism ruled and whoever dared to question the young ruler's word was punished immediately.
Hajime's existence became the law above all laws that seemed to have reached a state of immortality in an impossibly short time and three months after he had claimed the crown as his own, his terror regime was nowhere near to end, in fact, it had only just begun.
The doors to his chamer swang open as the former prince had approached the entrance, his confident smile and slow steps being enough for every servant nearby to know it was time to clear the way for him.
"Thank you...", he hummed in a sickenly sweet way that seemed to burn like poison as a young woman reached out to take off the cloak that hung loosely from his shoulders and hung it over the next best chairback, before quickly excusing herself and disappearing, closing the door behind her carefully.
Taking in a deep breath of exhaustion, Hinata tugged at his sleeves while walking toward the huge balcony at the very end of his bedroom. Opening the glass door with a single hand motion, he was nothing but surprised when he found his younger brother standing in front of him, his tired eyes speaking louder than any words he could possibly come up with.
His own pair of olive hues narrowed while his grin spread across his cheeks as he walked closer toward his twin, both next to each other as alike as two peas in a pod.
"I didn't expect you to be here tonight, brother...", he spoke softly, sitting down on a nearby chair and inviting the other one with a simple hand gesture to sit in front of him at the other side of the coffee table.
Nodding toward a nearby maid, he ordered tea for the two of them, to which she replied with a nod, before walking back inside as fast as possible.
"Is there anything you need to discuss with me? It's rare that you even come into my room lately."
