He knows for sure that he is an only child, so the possibility of something like a long lost sibling is thrown out the window as a ridiculous fancy. Still, even if it wasn’t possible, there were multiple instances in the past, when he was alive and had felt particularly lonely on a night away from home, where he imagined impossible scenarios of having a younger sibling whom he would, without a doubt, pamper and spoil.
Again, those were only silly dreams that could never, and would never, become reality.
All this over spotting someone who held an uncanny resemblance to him.
Well, he had figuratively dug himself a pretty nice hole by approaching this stranger solely because he had been drawn in by their red hair.
