The Encounter || Closed ||
The former queen of the world was surrounded with little chance of escape for at least a few days. However, instead of cowering in fear as most people in her position would have, she took a page from her father's book and merely shurgged it off. Those stacks of documents that seemed to grow taller with each passing second would eventually begin to fall. It was just a matter of time and... A sigh broke passed glossy pink lips while the sound of her stomach grumbling interrupted Relena's thoughts. She had been stuck in that office since eight in the morning with only one short and yes, forced break that involved a bottle of water and some kind of sandwhich. The Darlian girl had been way too consumed by work to even notice what it tasted like. There was just too much going on for breaks and the idea of a vacation almost seemed laughable at this point. It was for that exact reason why she focused so little on the kidnapping threats made. Perhaps it was foolish but she trusted the secuirty team when it came to her personal safety or maybe... Did she really wish to be taken away and put in such a dangerous situation just to see a certain person? No. That was silly and the mere thought of it caused light brown locks to shift as she shook her head.
"I really must be tired if I'm thinking like that," she mumbled to herself, pen in hand while crossing out a line in section two of article twenty six of a draft involving trading between the colonies and Earth. Luckily, there was someone around who had been there from the very start and knew Relena well enough to know when it was time to help ease her into the idea of going home. Eyes closed as she felt a warm hand suddenly resting on a shoulder. She knew exactly what was to come and paused her writing.
"I just need to finish this one..." she began. "I wanted to make sure th--" Relena's words came to a halt as soon as soon she heard the old man clear his throat. "I apologize, Miss Relena, but I believe that particular document isn't expected to be turned in until next week." He then gestured with his hand to the date on the far right corner that backed his claim. "Wouldn't it be better to look at it with a set of fresh eyes tomorrow?" he suggested and took a step back from her while she made her decision. Relena had grown a great deal since her adoptive father's death. No longer was she a spoiled child whose world never went beyond the gates of the family mansion. Her mind and heart had grown thanks to both the tragedies and victories she experienced. Relena put down the pen, though she made no effort to start packing. "You wouldn't want to make a mistake," he stated, his final push that he was certain would work. A few more minutes late and Pagan was rewarded for his faith by the sound of papers being shuffled into a folder.
"You win," Relena smiled, inhaling sharply as she pushed her chair back and got up. "Thank you for keeping an eye on me." Laughter may have followed that sentence but in truth, she meant it with all her heart. Sure, she wasn't a child anymore but it was nice to have 'someone' watching over her.
With a few folders tucked under her arm, Relena exited the office with Pagan before being greeted by two body guards. There was an urge to tell them to go home the second her eyes caught sight of them. She was strong enough to deal with any kidnapper on her own. Why waste their time when they could've been doing something more productive like...guard someone else? It was way too frustrating having to deal with work and then this, but she managed to bite her tongue as they escorted her to the elevator. Perhaps after some time had passed since the last letter... Relena had read the first two and could easily recall a feeling of dread that twisted her stomach into a million lovely knots. The author seemed to know her far too well to be some random person whose threats could easily be dismissed. They made note of private things like her schedule and were even able to go into detail about what she had for lunch. It was beyond creepy. However, the whole situation was forced to the back of her mind. If she allowed fear to take over her life, then she would be stuck at home with a million guards that followed her to even the bathroom. No thank you.
"Oh, Pagan. What time is my first meeting on Thursday?" she asked while holding back a yawn along with thoughts of being taken away at gunpoint. "I need to make su--" Relena paused and bit a lower lip before running right out of the elevator, the doors just closing behind her. "I can't believe I left that other folder behind," she mumbled while racing back to her office without the protection of Pagan or the body guards.
