Choosing the better part - Celebrating Jesus' wish
As a Catholic child listening to some of the stories in the Bible, I did not always understood them, but it did get me thinking about them enough to remember these stories much later as an adult.
In one of the stories, I remember two sisters, one wanting to listen to Jesus, while the other was busy preparing for Jesus as their guest, the latter complaining to Jesus that her sister was not helping her. However Jesus told her that her sister, who was listening to Jesus, was doing the right thing.
As a child growing up and learning about responsibility, I did not understand that. One was enjoy herself doing no work, and the other one was busy working.
It's been only recently, that I remember this story and how it's connected to our mission. Our mission is a mission of celebration and that basically it! While there are so many other missions that are doing so many important things for our Catholic Church, how can our mission compare with any other missions out there?
I'm thinking.., I just want to celebrate; is this even a worthy mission? And I remembered this story and made the connection. To be closer to Jesus is the better part - the right thing to do. Our mission is to celebrate Jesus' wish, we do not do anything else. We do not directly help the poor, we do not directly help support human rights, and we do not directly help defend the Church’s teachings. What we do is to celebrate Jesus' wish.
Here is the call..., there is only one thing, choose the part that is closes to Jesus. There are Jesus’ teachings, His commandments, and then there is His wish for perfect unity.
Which do you think is closer, more personal to Jesus?
Which is the better part?
If you can see what we see in our mission, please support us and celebrate with us.
This is Jesus wish. This is our mission.
As they continued their journey he entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him. She had a sister named Mary (who) sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak. Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me." The Lord said to her in reply, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her."
