Final Statement
Vagueness is the exciting, complex, rich and entangled condition of daily life and the way we experience it. Vagueness allows us to perceive difference, vagueness helps us experiment without the anxiety of a perfect or singular outcome. In our performance, we have incorporated the soundtrack of Gertrude Stein’s ‘A Valentine to Sherwood Anderson’ to create a sense of vague ambience to accompany our abstruse performance. Her rhythmic and fluid story demonstrates the inability to come to a singular conclusion or to make sense, heightened through her lack of articulation, repetition of words and varying pace in which vagueness is expressed. We have included this in the background of our performance as it represents the nature of vagueness, and creates a rhythmic accompaniment in which we mimic with our bodies. The accompanying computer light experience projects onto our bodies to elevate interest and engagement within our piece, as we become a part of the artwork. We move in a canon formation using ordinary stools in a variety of actions, creating sound and movements that epitomize the idea of vagueness. In the last section of our performance, each member moves in an individual and unique sequence contrasting the beginning, emphasising the progression from structured and conformed movement to incoherent and improvisation, resulting in a vague conclusion. Our group has worked collaboratively with equal contributions to create the final production, with varying input, we have each incorporated our own personal ideas and individual movements, represented by the second section in our piece.

Assessment 2: Experimenting
This video documents our experiment in creating a choreographed routine in which we use a ‘canon’ formation to mimic each others movements. As seen we move in and around the stools, lifting, dragging and stepping on them to create unique and rhythmical actions. We add a musical element into it as we all tap the stools at various paces, reflecting Gertrude Stein’s soundtrack in which we perform to. This section of our piece contrasts the last section as we move in a unified pattern, yet we are still vague and have no purpose with what we are achieving.
Assessment 2: Experimenting
For this experiment we choreographed a draft section of our piece, testing various movements we could include in our improvisation part. This video shows a short clip of our work and highlights our understanding of vagueness as our movements are uneven and spontaneous, having little to no meaning.
Assessment 2: Experimenting
This was the experiment concerning the visual background we plan to have incorporated into our performance. We wanted to test how the lights looked on our bodies and how it would appear to the audience with the room dark as well. This was a successful experiment as it turned out the way we wanted it to be, although we need to be prepared for any technical difficulties that may happen on the day.
