sometimes i worry about being a culinary student who wears a lot of scented stuff (esp gourmands) bc fragrance can interfere with your sense of smell in the kitchen but also like. the line cooks who smoke ten packs a day are probably having their senses compromised significantly worse than i am so

dan's birthday candle smelling like orchid + sandalwood + lemon and phil's smelling like lavender + sage + neroli ... i just know the phouse smells fabulous

You can absolutely info dump about perfumes to me, my friend. I love that kind of thing!!! I'm always building off a scent profile when I pick products to use in the bath/ shower.

Tell me about your special interest!

yayyyy thank you Elder Kit! This is a new interest of mine, so I don't know a ton about it yet, in all honesty, just what I like and dislike. The thing about perfumes is that there are SO MANY and they are SO subjective. I adore gourmand scents (vanillas, sweets, candy, sugar, etc) and they do so well on my skin. I cannot stand heavy musk and I'm not partial to woody scents or florals, unless they're very light mid-notes or top notes. Which means it's nearly impossible to blind buy perfumes and even when you can test them in person, you need time to let it settle before you can tell if it's actually good or not.

I like niche perfumes and smaller brands, for the most part, which is great for my wallet, but they're harder to find in person, so once again we're at the problem with blind-buys. I have spent.... too much money... on perfumes so far this year (hence why I am banned from buying more until 2027) so my wishlist keeps growing and growing. I know I should use this time to go to stores in person and try the perfumes, take notes, and decide if I want to keep them on my wishlist,,,, but my self-restraint may not let me smell a PERFECT perfume and walk away without it..... sob sob sob

anyway!! my favorites are Vanilla Skin by Phlur (a body mist I bought when overstimulated at Sephora for the first time and it just so happened to become one of my favorites), One Fine Day Mango Sticky Rice (super realistic scent, but hoo boy it is powerful-- I have to spray it on my lower back because if it's any closer to my nose I get overwhelmed) and You or Someone Like You by etat libre d'orange (beautiful fresh citrus and mint, with a dry down that almost smells chocolatey!!)

my wish list items right now are White Rice by d'Annam, along with several other scents from that house, but that's my white whale at the moment, and Saint Julep by Imaginary Authors-- it's a local brand to me and I'm looking for a perfect sweet mint scent still.

I love layering my perfumes, but I haven't quite figured out how to layer other things like lotions, body washes, etc, and make everything gel correctly. What kinds of things do you like? What's your best combo?

Does anyone have fragrances they will never buy? Like mine are Replica, Kayali, any of the recent YSL perfumes like Libre or black opium!

I’m starting to warm up to Santal 33 actually……I keep thinking about dill and dirty martinis and I took another sniff today from my sample and I was like wow. I kind of like this actually.

also I got Glossier Doux for Xmas and it smells soooooo good, although unfortunately no glossier fragrance will ever be as good as the original You formula :(( I wish they’d bring that back.

now I have to decide if I want to get the Aesop or le labo discovery set (or Fantome or Stora Skuggan, haven’t decided) and then I’m off perfume until I actually USE UP what I already have.

I've been low-key obsessed with perfumes for the past few years, so naturally I started thinking what kind of IRL perfume Gortash would wear.

I think.. I could see him wear Noir by Tom Ford.

I mean, it's not terrible imo. I feel it has wayyy too much going on, but that's the vibe I get from Gorty too.

Have you ever tried any really mossy or earthy scents?

yes i have tried many!! if yr looking to try an assortment of interesting earthy scents i recommend black phoenix alchemy labs! they've got a lot of great and intense and weird earthy/mossy ones. they've got this sample pack

w some of their best earthy scents! all of the mossy and earthy smells from them that i'd rec are in here :) yorick + burial r my two faves.

another fave earthy scent of mine is one of my signature scents, tempo by diptyque! a great earthy and rich patchouli scent if yr into a more hippie vibe
