I'm just going to come right out and say it, Smart Girls: can we all agree that it's time to stop the shame around menstruation once and for all? It's a natural thing that has happened to ladies before us and it will happen to ladies after us. A changing body is difficult enough, who needs additional stigma surrounding what is a completely normal function? I wish it were as simple as waving a magic wand (that's code for "tampon," by the way) and helping everyone learn to relax when it comes to their monthly visitor. Believe it or not, for girls across the world periods are causing a panic and, in certain cases, leading them to drop out of school altogether. Periods should put an end to a sentence, not an education! Recently The Guardian reported that "irls in rural Uganda miss up to eight days of study each school term because they are on their periods" which translates into about 11% of their school year.
