The raven-eyed Kashmiris and the Turks of Samarkand are dancing in all their splendor with the poetry of Hafez of Shiraz - Hafez This is a verse from Hafez's nine-verse Ghazal Sīne mālāmāl - my heart is brimful of pain. " However 14 of the 30 manuscripts of this Ghazal contain the verse as: Do not give your heart to the beautiful ones, Hafez / look at all the violence that the Turks of Samarkand did against the Khwarezmians. However according to historians, this line was composed by Hafez in the aftermath of Timurid devastation occurring in Khwārezmin 1379. Shafiʿi-Kadkani explains this potentially authentic double authorial rendition by suggesting that it is one of the few cases in which Hafez has re-edited his own text for political reasons: “Hafez, after Timur’s conquest of Fars, probably interpolated this verse as a result of fearing the violent and merciless actions of the Turk of Samarkand. Kashmir, according to Iqbal, is known as the Iran-e-Sagheer - the Little Iran. This is due to the Central Asian influence which added its essence deeply in the country 14th century onwards. Kashmiri poets, writers and Saints would often write in Farsi. It established Kashmir as an important centre in the Farsi speaking world. Farsi was an official language from the 15th century until 1899 when Urdu replaced it. However it’s influence continues to be on our language and even our civilisation.
