This is more for my own personal reference but also to share

Sometime late last year I read that someone started a challenge where they were going to read a book every month in 2024 and I have tons of books that I haven't read as well as the tendency to just buy more...especially since we tend to find books at Goodwill (a second-hand store or I guess like a pawn shop?)

So I decided to do it, I mostly read non-fiction and informational more than fiction but here's what I've read so far... I plan to reblog it when I read more as the year progresses. I will give my thoughts in brief!

January: The Handbook for Highly Sensitive People: Very helpful and empowering because I don't really have a sense of community as an HSP so it was good for my soul to read this.

February: Idiot's Guide to Ayuverda: Nice comprehensive introduction and guide though I don't think it's quite the right approach for my lifestyle. Also didn't like that the author assumed all he readers were female/ had almost no advice for men following this lifestyle.

March: Living with Tinnitus and Hyperacusis: Good book overall with some helpful advice but like most books about these topics Hyperacusis is a little more lacking in info and there's a lot of assumptions that it is caused by the Tinnitus though for me...I had Hyperacusis waaaay before I ever had Tinnitus (sadly developed it later in life due to antibiotics) and if given the choice to only get rid of one i'd chose to get rid of Hyperacusis but alas...most people don't have Hyperacusis or if they do it's not permanent so not enough research is there...whereas tons of people get Titnnitus...the struggle is real.

April: The big brain book: Development, Function, DIsorder, and Health: Find the brain a very fascinating thing so I enjoyed this book very much even though it felt like a textbook, i wasn't upset at all. Also great pictures.

May: Sleep right in five nights: Old book from my Poppy, mostly relied on Cognitive Behavior Therapy which I have yet to use effectly so... we'll see.

June: Mythology by Alexandria Hamilton: Nice to read overall but honestly should be titled Greek and Roman Mythology because she mostly talks about that with only two very short chapters about Norse Mythology which caused me to mourn cause I know the least about it of those three. Also i still remember your very subtle attack on Egyptian mythology, will never forgive. Everyone writes about Greek and Roman mythology so I'd say you don't have to get this one...I literally wrote the author's name on only this one because I am bitter...I mean I don't regret reading it but...still bitter.

Listening to this episode of Imaginary Worlds Podcast, they discussed villain redemption in fiction, and asked who you think of as a redeemed villain and which villains cannot be redeemed.  

For me: Redeemable:  Mitsuzane “Micchy” Kureshima, Lelouch vi Britannia, Riku (Kingdom Hearts). Irredeemable:  Goro Akechi. Waiting for redemption: Devil Homura.

The episode also talked about the empathy that goes into forgiveness. I’ve always believed in leaving the door open for redemption, because  1) I secretly wish for my own redemption, so it gives me hope to see devious fictional characters be forgiven/redeemed too,  2) if you could wish for any type of relationship with others, why wouldn’t you aim for the good wish?  I mean, do you enjoy hating the person at work/school who makes you feel bitterness and annoyance each time you see them nearby?  That just sounds like aggravation for me.  If I could have any wish, I’d wish for a good relationship with people instead.  So even when I suspected that people didn’t really like me, I’ve always kept faith to believe better of them and I’ve always worked hard to leave the door open for them, so that at any moment they decide to have a better relationship with me, they can start.  There are no obstacles if I always leave myself open for positive relations with them.  (And yes, it’s true what the podcaster remarked about forgiveness meaning to leave yourself vulnerable to betrayal, but I’ve always aspired to the True Strength that can take hits like that for the sake of Compassion.  I’ve said for the longest time: That’s why Kindness is for the Strong; it’s a marker of True Strength.)   That’s why it’s funny to me that I can hate fictional characters so much.  The hatred can be so intense that I have to laugh at myself and wonder “Where did all those ideals go?”  ^o^  But the best insight came from a conversation I had with my brother once about tsundere.  He still watches a lot of harem anime and tsundere have become the go-to love interest in the past decade or so, and he’s gone along with it.  But I explained to him that if someone is annoying to be around, who makes every moment horrible, who works so hard to be abrasive that I hate spending any time with them, then I’m not going to put up with their abrasive sides, just to wait for the good parts, and that’s why I generally hate tsundere.  I’ve always regretted not clarifying to my brother something I’ve ruminated over since then:  I hate abrasive tsundere in FICTION; I’ll save my empathy for real people in real life.  And maybe that’s why I can hate certain FICTIONAL characters so much.  I’ll save my Compassion, empathy, and forgiveness for people in REAL LIFE.

What's the furthest you've ever been from home? Isle of Wight, 179 Miles away.

How would you describe your fashion sense? 50% Vintage, 50% Throw-On-Anything-In-My-Wardrobe. But Overall I mostly live in my PJ's.

What Phone do you have? (iOS v Android) I'm an iPhone girl, but older generations, i'm not about to pay £700 for a phone. Currently using 5c.

Which book have you read the most? Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson.

What celebrity do you think you look like? Snorlax from Pokemon.

What was the last Youtube video you watched? Yakko's world - Animaniacs. My kids are obsessed.

What is your opinion on Abortion? Acceptable in some circumstances, (for example; Rape, Life Threatening for Mother or Baby) definitely not to be used as contraception because you couldn't be bothered to use anything else.

30 things about me

1. I'm tongue-tied, resulting in me having speech therapy for a lisp when I started primary school. I still have trouble pronouncing some sounds, I can't pronounce the word 'sixth' at all.

2. One of the earliest albums I remember listening to was '(What's the Story) Morning Glory' by Oasis. It was my Mom's CD and I was two years old when it was released.

3. On the subject of music, when I was a toddler my Mom made me a mixtape of various songs I loved at the time. A few of the tracks I remember vividly include 'Disco 2000' by Pulp, 'Some Might Say' by Oasis and 'Spaceman' by Babylon Zoo.

4. I don't drink alcohol or smoke, I used too but stopped both around 4/5 years ago.

5. Christmas is my favourite time of year, I plan it all year round and drive my family crazy with countdowns.

6. My Parents, Siblings, Cousins, Grandparents all got the brilliant looks, I got the brains.

7. I feel like I was born in the wrong era, I don't fit in with this generation and wish I had lived through the early 1900's.

8. I've never been abroad. The only other country I have visited is Wales, the only time I've travelled over water was to get to the Isle of Wight.

9. I've lived in six different houses/flats since birth.

10. I left home at 16, moved in with my partners family and then moved into our own home when I was 20.

11. I found out I was pregnant with our first child in A&E at our local hospital on my 19th birthday. I sadly miscarried at 10 weeks.

12. Our son was born in the summer of 2014, our daughter followed in summer of 2017.

13. One of my biggest dreams is to write a children's story and dedicate it to my children.

14. My Mom chose my name as an alternative version of her Nan's name, my name actually means 'Fierce Island; Brave; From the Ship's Island; A Ship's Victory'.

15. I am the oldest sibling, I have two half-siblings on my Dad's side but none on my Mom's.

16. I went through the inevitable 'emo/punk' stage in high school. Don't judge me.

17. Continuing from number 16 - I had piercings and an ear-gauge, most of which were done by myself.

19. My body doesn't deal well with caffeine so I don't drink coke, coffee or energy drinks. It brings on intense panic attacks and anxiety.

20. I was and still am a huge Pokemon fan. The original 150 will never be beaten.

21. As of 2015 I do not have a gallbladder.

22. I am that irritating person who corrects you all the time.

23. I have a long list of physical and mental health issues.

24. My other half and I have been together for 8 (and a bit) years. We grew up 17 houses apart and we've known each other since we were kids.

25. I once volunteered as a sales assistant for the British Heart Foundation Charity.

26. My first 'real' job was a sales advisor for a graphic design company.

27. When I was little I really really wanted to be an Archaeologist.

28. As a child every time I had the opportunity to make a wish I would always wish for a Donkey, aka my favourite animal ever. 

29. If I won the lottery I'd move to the countryside with my family in the middle of nowhere and cut off from the rest of the world.
