This past weekend I went on a hiking trip with a group that a friend of mine created. He builds a trip, sends out the details to a bunch of people, and whoever can, joins in - creating a group of different people who know and don’t know each other. • • I’ve gone on hikes with this friend of mine, and a few others many times over the past few years, but this was my first time joining his “hiking group”... I knew a few of the people, but most of them I didn’t. • • I had a great time seeing the people I knew and getting to know the ones I didn’t. But most importantly, it reminded me how comfortable I am in my own skin. Because even when I was just walking along alone, where I once would have felt awkward and left out, this time I felt empowered and in complete peace. • • I enjoyed being in my own company, getting lost in the nature without constantly wondering if I should mingle, and worrying what others might think. • • Part of the reason I went on the trip was to get away, disconnect and star gaze. The people around were an added bonus, but they weren’t the reason I was there. And I didn’t feel the pressure (that we usually put on ourselves) to be social. I was just being. • • • How about you?
