a comic about getting hurt
they will never give it to you straight.
trying hand at comics. read from right to left
I don't know if I'm dragonkin or therian in the 'traditional' sense, as I don't really experience 'species dysphoria'; it presents itself more as a longing for the sky. I find it's something quieter, something within the soul. In my dreams and without the confines of my physical body, I become a dragon. I can fly where I want, over vast plains and rivers, across borders and above city skylines with freedom and grace.
Most of the time, I am a black dragon. But sometimes I've been other colors; sometimes red, sometimes blue, and even hot pink. Once, I was a rainbow eastern dragon protecting a village from a great giant.
Dreams like this have come to me since I was a child. Because of that, I embrace the idea that maybe my soul is the shape of a dragon; regardless of how 'real' or not they may be.
Dragons are special in a unique way that they connect all humanity and cultures together in a vast, unexplainable collective imagination. Perhaps this is the root of why I believe my dream-woven dragon self is so important to me.
Nothing worse than feeling like you'll never truly be loved for who you are
I don't know if this is a thing, but I've been inspired to share a list of blogs that have had a positive impact on my mental health and/or contribute mightily to making Tumblr the joyful space I have found it to be. Without further ado, I present the blogs that make my slice of the world better!
1) @sleepy12ftpanda - This one's kinda a gimme, because they are the first mutual I've ever had and I'm very parasocial about that and I love their takes.
2) @talesfromtreatment (and their personal blog @fractiousrvt) - There are absolutely gory pictures and sad stories on these, but I can't get enough of their personality, sense of humor, and general good-egg vibes. Seriously, if I could meet one "famous to me" Tumblr blogger, it would be them.
3) @l3irdl3rain - So many cute animals, so many wonderful stories, aaaaaah, I just adore them 🥰 They share experiences with their old and/or sickly and/or scrungly pats, and they are just a perfect person who makes me smile so much!!!
4) @ahedderick - They have a bit more of a narrative angle to their blog, and when they share bits from their rural life, it is so cool to see. They know so much about horses, and they grow beautiful things, and I just hope they have nothing but joyful days 💙 Also? They seem like a pretty sweet parent and make wonderful art!
5) @gallusrostromegalus - I think they are the most tumblr-famous blog I follow, and for good reason. They are hands-down the funniest digital storyteller I've ever encountered. Seriously, explore their family lore tag and prepare to hurt yourself laughing 🤣
6) @ms-demeanor - Okay, they might actually be the most tumblr-famous blog I follow. They are such a wonderful communicator, especially on topics that overwhelm and/or confuse me, and I feel that they are incredibly effective at sharing their perspectives and experiences. They have 100%, genuinely, and fundamentally changed the way I engage with media. They have taught me to be more critical without being judgmental, to be skeptical without being dismissive, and to be honest without being inconsiderate. They regularly share ideas that I will be thinking about for weeks, months, years. Also their husband is called Large Bastard and their adorable dog is Small Bastard 😆
7) @kaity--did - The stories they share make parenting seem so much more joyfully (rather than frighteningly) chaotic, and I aspire to bring similar energy to my own parenting journey (in a few years).
8) @followthebluebell - Can you tell I really like blogs from people who work with animals? Yes, well, this blog is full of some of the most precious and ridiculous cats, and I just really enjoy the writer's voice in their storytelling 😍
9) @bunjywunjy - Followed for the curse biology, stayed for Wexter the T. rex 🦖
10) @brosser-les-dents - I get that this is sort of a gimmicky blog (based around reminding people to care for their teeth), but the way they talk to people, especially anons asking about embarrassing or frustrating hygiene things, is so kind, gentle, compassionate, and friendly 🥰🥰 They have definitely helped me get over some hurdles in my own personal care routine, and I cannot thank them enough for their blog!!!
11) @certifiedsexed - God, never have I wished I could direct my students to a Tumblr blog more than this one 😭😭😭 They are so kind and open and nonjudgmental, and they approach sex education with so much positivity and with a decidedly empowering stance. I love seeing them advocate for healthier relationships to sex, sexuality, and sex education. They also just kinda seem like a sweetheart, so 💙
12) @becausegoodheroesdeservekidneys -- Welsh. That would be enough on its own, but they also wrote the Ballad of Big Dog and narrated Clownfall (both stories of the UK's messed up parliamentary system) which are two of the funniest tellings of real-life politic buffoonery that I've ever read. Truly, try to read about Blow Jo and not find yourself cry-laughing, I dare you 😂🤣😂🤣
13) @bodhrancomedy -- They are a stupendously funny deaf actor/comedian, and I simply can't get enough of them. I wish I still lived in the UK so I could see them live 😂
14) @feefal, @yuumei-art, and @pikaole - all of them create art that is cute, beautiful, and moving! They are some of my go-to scrolls when I want to soak in imagery 🥰
I'm arbitrarily capping this here, but for some of you who might be newer to Tumblr, these are really great places to start!
[PRONOUN NOTE: I am using the/them pronouns to refer to all blogs because for whatever reason genders get very muddled in my head when it comes to online life. Many of them have their pronouns in their info, so please do check those before interacting with them directly!]
