And also I don't really think that means that you can just bash someone for shipping something for no good reason. Going out of your way to make someone feel bad for something is never ok. But people loudly exclaiming how perfect and real and canon something is when its NOT is also not ok. Shipping them for your own reasons or as a casual passing "if" type of thing maybe. But full blown "THIS IS SO PERFECT AND FLAWLESS" is kinda where people lose my respect in these types of situations.

well, no, I would not bash someone for shipping something for no good reason. However, if they’re shipping a ship which is harmful, then yes I will hate on the ship all I want to lol i won’t necessarily attack the shippers themselves unless they decide to fight me, in which case it’s just retaliation

like if a ship has serious issues w/ it I will hate on it and I won’t feel bad bc honestly it’s a harmful ship, but if a ship is more-or-less harmless then I don’t really care and its just like “yeah ok ship it or not whatever i don’t care”

And I 100% agree, and its hard to watch people keep a closed mind about a show that does have so much representation. Normally its good to see opinions in a fandom like this but when you start to just strip things that make it peoples favorite or peoples representation is when an opinion becomes not ok

I don’t mind differing opinions when they are harmless, but taking away representation is far from harmless, as well as everything else these people trying to argue me are trying to say. I think they just don’t understand that opinions have consequences, can be harmful, and are, in fact, not a sacred thing free from criticism.

That’s why I feel like, for example, people can ship pewey or jaspis or lapis x steven or pearl x steven, HOWEVER this does not exempt them from being criticised for it, esp if they’re not using any of the ships as a coping method (i say this particularly in the case of jaspis since I have seen it be used as such). Just because you’re free to do something problematic doesn’t mean you’re free from backlash if you do it, you know?

I actually saw a post on my dash once that said it’s ok to ship problematic ships (note that the post literally described them as such) and that people criticising the ships and (sometimes) shippers are wrong, I blocked the post bc honestly no lol

I kinda agree about these opinions just being so eh Honestly the first time I saw the ian gal pals twitter post I didnt see the problem but the second time I realized that I didn't see a problem with it because I've never been in a situation where I've felt like representation is important to me. So for me personally I realized its easy to forget that a childrens cartoon IS now this source of representation Im not saying this as an excuse I just feel opinions like this come from forgetting that.

Probably. Honestly su is the only show I can think of that has this much representation in it, and on top of that, it isn’t tokenism either, and when people take that away it’s just really :///
