Pete Majarich
In 2016 designer Pete Majarich took it upon himself to create an alternate movie poster for a different film, every day for a year. His project was named, quite aptly, 'A Movie Poster A Day'. When I foung this series I instanly knew I had to include it in my research as, while all the posters are very good, some are incredibly effectiveand mininmal.
In each of his posters Majarich has been successful in encapsulating what each film is about or a main element of it without including too much information. In particular, his poster for speed included almost no imagery apart from a simple illustration of speedometer needle. However, when paired with the text, it is very clear what the movie is about and the poster, as a whole, ties together very well. This is also the case for his poster for 'Robocop'. Even though there is only a single red line going across the page, the meaning is obvious and personifies the movie very effectively.
The second poster, representind the movie 'Twister', is quite refelective of the style of Josef Müller-Brockmann. The use of solid, black lines to create the image of the tornado has enabled the poster to be stripped back to only essential elements, whic adds a sense boldness to the poster. It can also be seen that there is some form of grid system being out in place. Whilst it may not be as strict as those used by Josef Müller-Brockmann, it adds a sense of order to the poster and there is a semblance of balance present. The use ofa restrictive colour palette is also very Müller-Brockmann-esque, and adds to its bold and stark look.
Pete Majarich faz um poster de filme por dia, desde 2016. Haja inspiração e tempo. O vídeo que mostra o resultado do seu projeto até agora é pra te deixar tonto.
