5 For The Future | PETE GOODING
“5 For The Future” is the official Thefuture.fm interview series. Every week, our team of writers features the talents of our platform’s most impressive DJs — from skilled veterans to the most thrilling up & comers — with 5 quick interview questions for your eyes, and a new mix for your ears.
Pete Gooding has been chasing and living his dream since the year 1989. At the young age of 15, he ventured on an underage trip to Amnesia in Ibiza and it changed his life and set him on a lifelong musical journey. When the subject of conversation is music, he doesn't dance around the subject, he dances in it. The song that started it all on that trip? Lil Louis' French Kiss. Fast forward to today and he's one of the most beloved and well-rounded dance music professionals around. He's held residencies on that magical island known as the "Mecca" of dance music at clubs like Mambo Ibiza and won the prestigious "Best Ibiza DJ" award at the Ibiza DJ Awards. His Global Network podcast currently generates hundreds of thousands of plays and consistently impresses us here at Thefuture with it's incredibly diverse and profound sound. We've brought you the latest of that fantastic podcast and encourage you to listen and read on for this week's very talented 5 For The Future artist of the week, Pete Gooding. Stay tuned to his channel for exclusive mixes and more.
1. Introduce yourself in One simple sentence.
Hi I'm Pete Gooding, that was way too easy! ;)
2. Why and when did you start DJ'ing? Did you begin producing before or after?
I started to DJ professionally a little in 1991 after being influenced buy holidays in Ibiza and hearing Sasha at a club in Stoke in the U.K called Shelly's, by 1993 it was a full time job. Production started in 1991 but that was just messing about really, my first release was in 2000.
3. Give us your opinion on the explosion of EDM in the U.S.
Well it's not really for me but it clearly makes a lot of people happy so it's all good, there is room for everything.
4. Last time we spoke, you mentioned that you're going to be setting up in Ibiza. What's the plan there?
Well it's like home to be honest, I have been coming here since I was 12 years old so I have set up an office here and am now based out here all year round, again. Im also back as resident at Cafe Mambo, I have my own party at Cafe Savannah bringing in big names to do more alternative sets, then the odd gig at Sands and Pikes. I am also doing several events I have arranged at Bora Bora where Im be playing with Dave Seaman and others and then I'll be playing at Pacha, dates tbc. I have also done a new compilation with Chris Coco for Gecko Beach Resort in Formentera.
5. Give some advice to all the upcoming dj's and producers in the world.
Do what you love and be prepared to work very hard for a long time until you start to get noticed, if not, then it's the wrong business for you, if you love it then you will enjoy the whole journey anyway!
Here are two competition's that I arranged prior to Pete Gooding's gig at the Metropolitan Bar in Glasgow on September 29th.
One of which is for I-On Magazine, where the reader has the chance to win a three course meal for four people, with house wine and after dinner cocktails, whilst enjoying the sounds of Pete Gooding.
The other competition is for Glasgow City of Music, where they have pushed out the competition through their Social Networking pages for free guest list places for the event.
Pete Gooding will be making a stop at the Metropolitan Bar in Glasgow on September 29th for his 'Mambo Tour'. Ahead of this gig I set up an interview with Synth Glasgow and Pete Gooding, with three Cafe Mambo mixes to get you in mood.
