#442 Golden Venture
"Golden Venture" is a documentary about illegal Chinese immigrants trying to get to the United States by any means necessary. In the early 1990's the Golden Venture, a ship commissioned by Snakeheads, shipped over 200 immigrants in cramped spaces to the United States. They were caught bringing them to legal battles on whether they can stay in the States of back to China. Peter Cohn falls into the pitfalls of the traditional documentaries shown in a class. Its broken up into parts like it was an essay thus loses a lot of the emotional impact it was looking for. It goes by the numbers on a subject that is very interesting and has become some what forgotten in an area where immigration is still a hot topic issue. But, it serves its purpose and portrays well what happen.
