Metropolitan Opera to Stage Terence Blanchard Opera

The Metropolitan Opera says that it plans to stage its first opera written by a black composer: Terence Blanchard's Fire Shut Up in My Bones. Details are scarce right now, but the Met, which is opening its current season with George Gershwin's warhorse Porgy and Bess, announced it has been in talks about bringing the Opera Theatre of St. Louis production of the Blanchard opera to a venue somewhere in New York as early as the 2021-22 season, with support from the Ford Foundation. A momentous event, if and when it materializes.
