(Hopefully by this point you’ve finished all 86 minutes of The Longest Week’, the kind of person who isn’t bothered by spoilers, or are just deciding if you still want to keep watching.)

It’s odd. It’s one of those films that comes across as indulgent...and ends up as indulgent.

(I actually watched until the end...just in hopes that it isn’t. I guess...that’s how much different it is from other films that tackle similar things? I think the unique thing is that the story takes everything that Conrad knows....well most. His chauffeur still ends up doing him favours)

What I did realise in the end was: I really wouldn’t be able to understand a person unless...I’ve been able to live his life. I really can’t judge someone who didn’t need to worry about financial stresses....and can’t really accept the whole ‘money isn’t everything’ completely until I’ve been there.

It is clear though...that immense wealth can cause emotional depravity. In a sense that we’re actually dealing with a character in his late 30′s who’s just now having his coming of age.

What is a coming of age tale? There are lots of definitions of it....and the one I like is the protagonist leaning empathy and the value of what he has.

PS: There’s also the other reason that I was able to hang on...despite this being....more of a guy’s tale: Jason is superb as Conrad. I wouldn’t want to spend time with the film’s protagonist...yet he is watchable. That’s a bit of magic in what Peter Glanz has put together...right?

PPS: Did Dylan ever learn of Conrad being broke? I would have thought that the sign that he did....was the appearance of the Volvo outside Beatrice’s appartment.

PPPS: Could this be considered a fable? It feels like one. Not just because there is an unseen narrator.

HIGHLIGHT: The dance sequence! (I know it would likely not be a defining moment in the choreography world...but....somehow it came of as quite inventive. Probably because in a film with a romantic component...that would not be the dance sequence put in. And also likely...the choice of approach is a confirmation that it is primarily a comedy.)
