answering some while doing homework
you sat on the couch, hand running through your hair as you waited for tom to walk through the door. you had a feeling that when the two of you started this relationship, you’d find yourself in this mess: alone, broken, and with a tear stained face.
once you heard the door unlock, you felt the air leave your lungs. you had planned out in your mind what to say, but you knew you weren’t strong enough to say it to his face. you knew that once you looked in his big, gorgeous, brown eyes, you’d be sucked right back in.
“hey, sorry, traffic was a nightmare,” tom said, making his way to where you were on the couch. he leaned down swiftly, pressing a soft kiss to your cheek. as he leaned down, you caught a whiff of a woman’s perfume. you knew the scent all too well, chanel n°5. the same perfume she wore.
“everything alright, darling?” he asked, bringing his hands up to hold your cheeks. his thumbs dragged across the dampened skin, eyes scanning your sad, slouched figure. you nodded, not wanting to seem weak.
“if there’s something wrong,” he said,”you can tell me.”
you bit down on your bottom lip, having the internal argument with yourself on whether or not you wanted to bring this up now or wait another night. the side that wanted to bring it up now won, however.
“i deleted all our texts,” you said, making his eyebrows furrow in confusion,”so don’t worry about having to type out some more excuses and bullshit lies.”
he swallowed,”what’re you talking about, darling?”
you looked up at his brown eyes, the first time you’ve made eye contact with him that night. his eyes were dark, but showed no emotion through them. his pupils were no longer blown when you came into his view, there wasn’t a spark in his eyes, nor his heart. not like there was in the beginning.
“y’know, i understand. i would’ve understood if you had just told me,” you said, trying your hardest not to get sucked back in,”and it’s starting to dawn on me that... the reason you didn’t want to come out about this is because you really don’t love me.”
he didn’t say anything, stood there silently as he felt a wave of guilt wash over him. it was true, he had lost the spark, lost the feeling he had when the two of you first started out. he knew that cheating on you with her was wrong, he wouldn’t doubt that, but he couldn’t force himself to love you when he truly didn’t.
“so, please, tom,” you mumbled,”don’t lie to me anymore. tell me the truth. tell me you don’t love me anymore.”
he licked his lips, watching as the tears filled your eyes again. he didn’t love you, but he’d be dammed if he didn’t care for you.
