I kept thinking that Halit had "man written by a woman" vibes and grew really curious. So I checked. And I'm right! Her name is Elif Usman and she knows all of my deepest, darkest desires apparently. She just wrote the perfect man into existence and now I'm supposed to live in this stupid world where men are competing to win Biggest Red Flag of the Year award.
That being said, the only OOC thing Halit did the whole season was living in misogyny hell in perpetual misery. In season 1, he was wholeheartedly willing to fake-assassinate Mustafa Kemal! He had no reason to believe that Esra would pop up exactly then. He risked life imprisonment or execution because he wanted to do the right thing. He's just a really good guy who sometimes ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time. (Hehe wrong time 🙃).
Even in season 2, he was independently investigating the missing women. Which is why Esra found that awful envelope in his jacket. Why he didn't tell her the truth immediately is super confusing but sadly that's what the plot demanded.
I can't believe they didn't mention Esra's Agatha Christie obsession this season! She's not a casual fan - she's read every little thing Agatha Christie ever wrote! Justice for Esra's hyperfixations, please!

omg do you think? i felt like ‘79 was so in tune with ‘17 halit somehow. they both felt the most tender versions of him, and i like to think he attempted several times to remove mumtaz from power, but it can’t be that easy if it slowly became a whole institution with guard dogs on every side. he was still so resourceful while saving esra etc but the amount of love you have to feel for someone to live in such hell and not run off somewhere else is WILDD but knowing him? yeah, checks out
OHHHHH i didn’t caught that regarding the envelope, but now that you mention it, it makes so much sense. perhaps he was trying to protect esra? worrying if she dug around too much about the topic, she could end up like the others? (which happened anyway but im just theorising at this point)
we NEED modern times esra showing her agatha christie collection to halit and then halit doing his usual thing and finding a first copy for her (not time traveling through the gateway halit pls enough)
