⋆⋆⋆IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ⋆⋆⋆ . It seems that with the Christmas holidays coming, people think it is okay to buy an animal as a gift for another person. I need to make something clear... hedgehogs aren’t easy pets. They aren’t like hamsters, and should never, EVER be compared to one. Their diets are very different, their needs are very different. What if the person you are gifting to isn’t wholeheartedly prepared to take on another mouth to feed? When getting an animal, a person should be physically, mentally and financial able to provide their Hedgehog with not only basic necessities, but things to make their quality of life excellent. Hedgehogs require special vets. Hedgehogs need to eat a high-quality cat food diet and insects. Hedgehogs are hard to hold at times, and people realize this and become bored. Hedgehogs are nocturnal, which means they sleep all day and are up all night. Hedgehogs aren’t always like the cute videos you see on here. Yes, Pokee, Azuki, Fox etc. are cute and social, but not all are. They require time and attention and dedication. Not someone who is unsuspecting of the life they are taking on. Not someone who has no clue what they are doing. PLEASE do not gift someone a hedgehog, or ANY animal for Christmas. You are doing a disservice to that animal if the person is not able to care for it. What people don’t know is that hedgehogs can bond with their humans. I’m positive that if I gave some of mine away to someone else, they would become depressed and angry and no longer “cute”. Especially Fox. I know Fox would never be the same... Hedgehogs are not toys that can be given to someone in a box under a tree. They are not a “trendy” pet to get you more likes and follows on social media. They are not easy money if you breed. They are not a plaything... Please don’t give a hedgehog as a gift unless you are willing and able to take it on yourself.
