Day 16: “This Snow Globe Looks Special” || Poly Au
Harlen looked at the globe frowning. It set on the table beside his head that was also set to the table.
“We can't give him one more gift?” Shane asks in a whisper, bouncing a bit anxiously. “I don't want to be a bad dad!”
“No! We let him pick, we did et fair, he had to learn to deal with not getting what he wants.” Felix was firm in this, so Shane went to the third party.
“Peeeeeeejy?” he remained impartial up until this point, and he looked at the two other father's and pursed his lips.
“Let me see what I can do.” he said getting off the wall he leaned on, uncrossing his arms and approaching the distraught five-year-old. “Whoa! Oh Harlen, could I see that?” Without lifting his head he held the globe out to him as he sat down beside. “Oh yes, this snow globe looks special.” he said and gave it a shake and then looked close to it. “Oh no! Oh gosh, I'm sorry! That was a bit too hard wasn't it?” he pats the glass gently. Let me try again.” he gave a much more careful tilt and spin to it. “Better? Yes! Sorry about that.” he gasped. “There's no need for that language my son is here!” he says to the little figure in the bubble. Harlen stands up and moves closer to Pj, smooshing his head closer to try and a see what he saw, hear what he heard but nothing. “...I'll have you know your mum-!”
“Who are you talking to?”
“That tiny man right there with the red scarf.” he said pointing to one of the tiny people on the little, frozen lake.
“No you're not!” he giggles at his silly daddy.
“Why wouldn't he talk to me?”
“Well you said you didn't like them, I wouldn't talk to you either.” He says looking away as if that was none of his business. “Besides! You never even shook the thing! How do you expect to talk to them? You don't have the magic!” Harlen’s eyes go wide and his little hands grab for the globe. Pj hands it over then pulls the tike to side between his legs so he's over his shoulder.
“Start with a polite apology and go from there, I'm sure they'll understand.” so Harlen did. He gave a soft shake and explained how he was just upset his sister got a doll and he didn't know how to play with a snow globe yet. He went on to talk to it until he had to go to sleep. The little people had races and he showed them around the living room, they showed him around their pond. He had quite the imagination when it was jump-started.
As Pj walked back to the other father's he had a slight smirk but leaned right back on the wall like no big deal.
“I'll never know how you do that shit.” Felix is the first one to move in on him, wrapping his arms around an dissing his cheek then neck.
“It's magic.” he chuckles in reply.
