For the six character meme: Burnham, Tilly, KJ, Troi, Data, and Spock.
Push off a cliff - Spock. Sorry buddy, it had to be someone.
Kiss - Kathryn Janeway. But only if she gets handsy with me during the kiss. XD
Marry - Sylvia Tilly. She’s so sweet and supportive!
Set on fire - Data. It probably wouldn’t hurt him.
Wrap a blanket around - Michael Burnham. She just looks like she needs some snuggles.
Be roommates with - Deanna Troi. She would give great advice.
Give me 6 characters and I’ll tell you who I’d 1) push off a cliff, kiss, marry, set on fire, wrap a blanket around, and be roommates with.
Starting a series of posts celebrating and sharing some ST:VOY fic love...
First up from the amazing @pg1890 --
Casting Light -- Some conversation and introspection in the middle of the night. Post-'Barge of the Dead'. P/T
AO3 FFN
Quiet and understated, Casting Light is a compelling exploration of the emotional fallout of Barge of the Dead (06.03). @pg1890 is a master of using subtle details to draw in her reader and here those details turn intimate and introspective. A must read for P/T fans -- and for anyone else who simply enjoys beautifully crafted writing.
For the character ask: Julia Paris and Harry Kim
Ooo! Fun!
For Julia
Things we have in common:
have been cheated on by partner
both have husbands that sometimes pull super weird introverted shit that makes us go “why are you like this?!”
equitable childcare/work arrangement with spouse (any feeling of Tom’s that his father was absent was actually a result of his parents’ secret separation when he was a teen and not Owen been a generally absent father who was always working)
Things we don’t have in common:
she’s definitely more confident and outgoing than I am
she’s an only child
her husband took her name when they married
For Harry
Things we have in common:
in love with Tom Paris
natural rule-follower
plays the saxophone
Things we don’t have in common:
Harry is much more open with his lack of experience than I am, I hide it absolutely as much as possible lest you realize that I don’t know EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING (which would obviously be the end of the world and of my value as a person)
he’s on only child
my relationship with my parents is much more chill
Send me a character, and I’ll give you three things I have in common with that character, and three I don’t.
For the fic ask: How about 14 and/or 15 for Linchpin. : )
Read Linchpin on AO3.
14: Is there anything you wanted readers to learn from reading this fic?
Well, I think most obviously, I wanted to the reader to learn about Joe Carey, and Joe and B’Elanna’s relationship. But at a deeper level, I think the whole thing was just a setup for the last scene, at the funeral. I think what I wanted the reader to take away was the complex emotions that happen when a person dies before “their time.” Especially when, if the situation had gone slightly differently, it would have been you in their place. How do you mourn their loss and celebrate your life at the same time? It’s still something I’m trying to figure out.
15: What did you learn from writing this fic?
Well, I learned about Jim Carey, Joe Carey’s evil twin brother, and star of that one scene in Relativity where a Carey hits on Seven. @captacorn and I decided that Joe was stationed at Utopia Planitia, and was only supposed to gone for the three weeks of the original Voyager missions. He had worked on Voyager at the shipyards, and had been ordered to go along because they were short staffed. ANYWAY, his brother Jim, who is also in Starfleet, was on Mars and wanted to see what Joe was working on. Joe had been showing him around in Engineering, but has to leave for a moment to deal with something, and THAT’S who Seven talks to.
Reblog if you are a fanfiction author and would like your readers to put one of your fic titles in your ask + questions about it
It's a hard choice to pick my favourite story of yours, but 'In the Middle of the Journey' might be it. Though it's so sad...
In the Middle of the Journey is so sad! I had Voyager going in the background and Timeless came on and I recently read Winter's Child by J. Elisabeth and I thought, ‘what if Tom and B’Elanna didn’t die on impact?’ And, well, you get a contender for the most sad thing I’ve ever written -- although it is a tight race between this and Like Real People Do...
AO3 | FFN for those that want to check out In the Middle of the Journey.
Reblog if you’re a fanfic writer and you wanna know what your followers’ favorite story of yours is ❤
My favourite story of yours is 'Hard as a Targ'. All that great proto-P/T. And B'Elanna reading from the novel...
Aw, thanks! That was a fun one. I was really pleased with how it turned out. What a fun time period to explore for Tom and B’Elanna. And I couldn’t have done that one without @captacorn.
For the character development asks (if you've not been asked these already): 17, 30, 42.
17- What was your character’s favorite toy as a child?
Well maybe this is a stretch on what constitutes a “toy,” but Owen’s favorite toy was the telescope his mother gave him when he was a child. He loved that thing; looking at the stars with his mother inspired him to join Starfleet. He even still has it, tucked away lovingly in the back of his closet.
30 - What does your character find repulsive or disgusting?
Hmm. More metaphysically, he is repulsed by dishonesty. It is profoundly upsetting to him. In the more physical realm, anything slimy. There’s just something about the physical response he can’t control.
42- Has your character ever had a parental figure who was not related to them?
Owen’s mother died when he was twelve, and his relationship with his father was rocky after that, so there was a gap to be filled. He had a few people over the years that filled that gap.
As a teen, he had an uncle in town that supported him in ways his father did not. He didn’t quite step into a completely parental role (he wasn’t raising Owen), but he supported Owen in ways that Tomos wasn’t able to (including supporting his application to Starfleet Academy).
While he was at the Academy, he probably had a professor he was particularly close to, but I haven’t quite figured out the details. But I’m not sure that Owen would have been able to let that relationship go beyond the professional. He’s (generally) good at (and prefers) boundaries.
As an adult, Julia’s parents took over that role. They become very close and their relationship is much deeper that of “just” in-laws.
Ask me more questions about Owen and Julia Paris.
