Sep 24 3am PST (Friday night/Saturday morning) Miyuu will be livestreaming her watching PGSM Act 9 and 10!

Once again encouraging folks to join and show Miyuu some love if the time works for you!  Miyuu will count folks down on when to click start on watching each episode, and she reacts/comment real time on the episode without pause (unless her cat interrupts lol).

Because of this, you can even watch the episodes ahead and write down any comments or questions you want to share in Japanese (with google translate if needed) ahead of time, and just post into the live chat for Miyuu when the time comes! :)

Miyuu reads English and she literally reads through all the messages on chat, and would even welcome you when you first say hi to her on the chat, even if it’s in the middle of the live stream!  She’s AWESOME!

Honestly, this scene was even shorter... barely 5 seconds. They should’ve just kept it.  I love seeing Rei being protective. Rei being my absolutely favourite, I really wished we could have seen her being a miko and interacting with kids more in PGSM.  That being said, Act 10, Act 27 and Final Act were all pretty awesome in showing big sis Rei at work. :)

I’m like dying with warmth and laughter at their back and forth on the crying. lol

I like how they are both way pass being embarrassed at this point of the interview and they are just embracing the fact that they are roasting either each other or themselves for their acting. lol

Miyuu’s like, “crap this was hard and we probably had to do so many takes, thanks for working with me on this”, while Keiko’s just calling herself out “I shouldn’t have been crying, but you can tell I’m about to be and I can’t help it.”

And so Usagi finally learns about Rei’s situation.  

I believe this translation isn’t the most accurate.  Usagi thinks “souka” with a falling tone, which has a meaning/connotation of “I see...”, implying she’s coming to a realization or understanding.  “That’s right” is more for “souka” being said with a rising tone, and would be interpreted more as remembering something or coming to a more “joyful” realization than a solemn one. 

Anyway, Usagi comes to realize the hard truth about Rei’s family situation, and as expected is obviously regretting how she’s been acting around Rei in their most recent interaction. 

I had a heart attack re-watching this scene when Luna turns around and calls after Usagi...

Big sister Rei’s gonna have to try and explain this away to Erika. Poor Rei.

Despite all of Usagi’s faults, Luna is indeed correct that Usagi had no clue, and again I admire that Makoto and Ami had not shared anything with Usagi despite them knowing some of Rei’s background.  It’s good to know despite they are all really close, they also really respect each other’s boundaries.

I really appreciate the writing of this scene, simplistic, but also concludes not only on a solemn note, but turning the focus to recognition of positive qualities by having Usagi appreciate Rei’s strength.

For a kid’s show especially, it also teaches a lesson that not everything is what it may seem, and people having layers to their personality and experience and even the best of friends don’t need to unload everything and know everything about each other with no boundaries.

<3 <3 <3 I love this closing scene to see snippet of the Tsukino household’s daily life.  I bet Shingo was guessing how long it’d take for Usagi to backdown or just forget everything from the morning. He’s taking everything with such a smartass attitude it’s fabulous!

If you look REALLY closely in the last scene, you see the kid’s smiling a little as he overhears his mom and sister’s chatter in the kitchen.  Despite being a smartass, Shingo’s a really, really sweet kid who cares for his family and I love the little shithead in PGSM so much.  This whole family is pure gold and I love every moment they show up in the series.

Want a good cry?  Let’s think about why the Kaguya Hime (Princess Kaguya) book is on Risa’s bed?

For those who have watched the rest of the series already, we know from Rei’s memory shown in Act 33 and 34, it is implied that little Rei was present when Risa breathed her last breath.  What if Risa was in the midst of reading the storybook to little Rei when her heart acted up? What if Risa had knew the chances of her surviving her illness was nil so had been the one who chose to put in Rei’s mind that she’s not dying, but that she’s heading to the moon? To ease a child’s fear of separation? A false hope, or sugar coated fairytale to ease a child’s pain of separation from life and death?

That’s why the story means so much to Rei. She’s all grown up now and knows what’s going on.  But this was the story her mom read for her.  This was the last act of love and kindness her dying mother was able to bestow upon her, so she hung on to the story and hangs tight to the storybook as it reminds her of her mother, of what it is imagined to be but realistically could never be. 

While the story was a symbol of a traumatic memory of losing her loving parent, it was also one that brought her hope as a child.  And Rei being the amazing, loving persons she is, shares it with children who are in similar situations as her.
