Given the amazing success of COVAXIN in treating COVID variants — why are the US and the West not giving emergency approval?

The disapproval of United States of America towards the emergency use authorization (EUA) to Covaxin, manufactured by an Indian company, Bharat Biotech is creating an unwanted doubt in the minds of the people. The decision of by the American government was conveyed to the American partner, Ocugen even before the manufacturers submitted a EUA application for the Covaxin.

The United States country is in no longer a situation where it requires to fast forward the approvals of Covid-19 vaccines to increase the supplies for immunization of their citizens. According to Bio Tech, India, the United States government has already invested approximately $18 billion in the development of various vaccines like Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna-NIAIDmRNA and Johnson and Johnson’s Vector jabs. With these developments in 2020, the country has managed to vaccinate a considerate number of population to achieve a good herd of immunity.

In the current scenario, the United States Food and Drugs Administration has decided on a new strategy to prioritize their reviews of EUA requests on the basis of clinical trials, the integrity of the trial data, and whether the manufacturing facilities for the inactivated whole virus vaccine meet appropriate standards as set by the United States government.

With the ongoing process of review and prioritization, the US FDA has recommended Ocugen to now apply for a full authorization for the vaccine instead on an emergency approval. For the approval Bharat BIoTech needs to provide more informational data from clinical trials to be well assured that Covaxin is safe, prompts immune response among the vaccinated citizens and has an acceptable efficacy.

However this process is expected to take approximately a year to get the approval for Covaxin to be used in the United States.

There have been doubts arising in the minds of people around the world who are vaccinated with Covaxin if they will be allowed to travel to United States if they are vaccinated with Bharat BioTech’s Covaxin. As a matter of fact, if you are not restricted from travelling to the United States in the current situation, it clearly signifies that the country requires a negative RT-PCR test for the travelers to be able to board a flight.

Probably if a student is looking forward to attend a university in the United States in the fall, it is unlikely that having received two doses of Covaxin will stop you from being able to enter the country. As Covaxin has still not received any approval from the US government. Several universities have allowed international students to “restart” their immunization upon arrival in the US with one of the approved vaccines that are available in the country.

The vaccine is still going to be reviewed by the US FDA under a standard approval process that may take time. In the meantime, Bharat Biotech has also submitted an application for an Emergency Use License from the World Health Organization, which it expects will come between July and September this year.

Is Congress doomed as a party?

There is no denial of the fact that, Indian National Congress party has been one of the most prominent ruling party since the time of Independence. Under the prime minister ship of Mr. Manmohan Singh, the Indian national congress party has worked towards the development of Indian economy and has flourished as a ruling party till 2014.

The party may not be able to dump the Gandhi family completely but they have opted for new operating model, where the chairmanship is handled by the party, while day-to-day affairs is handled by a CEO.This makes it completely baseless to believe the rumors of Indian National Congress party to be doomed in the near future. The Congress is relevant insofar as one in five Indians still votes for it. This was true in 2014, and it’s true again in 2019.

As per the latest reports Rahul Gandhi, president of the Congress party has recreated its mark by capturing a large part of the seats in the recent lok sabha elections.

The congress has managed to win the Mandi Lok Sabha seats from the BJP government and has won all the three seats in Himachal Pradesh, two in Rajasthan, one in Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka each.

Congress secures another victory in Raigaon constituency.

The party retains the Andhra Pradesh seats with a huge margin of 90,000 seats.

Congress party member Kusheshwar Asthan wins the Lok Sabha seats by a margin of 12,695 votes in Bihar.

Indian National Congress (INC) bags 57.03 percent vote share in Delgur Assembly seat with 1,08,840 votes, by a margin of 41,933 votes. BJP trailed in the second spot with 35.01 percent vote share.

In Pratapgarh’s Dhariawad, Congress candidate Nagraj Meena won by a margin of 18,725 votes. Meanwhile, Preeti Shaktawat defeated Rashtriya Loktantrik Party’s candidate Udailal Dangi in Vallabhnagar by a margin of 20,606 votes,

How UN General Assembly President Abdulla Shahid gave confidence to India's COVI

Abdullah Shahid, President of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has decided to get himself vaccinated with two boluses of the Covishield vaccine manufactured in India.

This vaccine has been initiated by a British-Swedish drug institute recognized as AstraZeneca. This medicinal assiduity has its manufacturing grounded in the Pune megacity of India as Serum Institute of India. At the first press conference, Mr. Abdullah Shahid said, that he's not sure as to how numerous countries would authorize Covishield, but an inarguable fact is, that a large portion of the countries import Covishield. The rules haven't been relaxed completely for now. It is expected to come into force from October 4.

WHAT DOES US EXIT IMPLY FOR THE WEST ASIAN AND SOUTH ASIAN REGIONS?

Subtitle - Abrupt exit by the US, flouting of the agreement by Taliban form a potent mix for unrest

The West and South Asian region today is confounded with many challenges with the Exit of US forces from Afghanistan. Qatar, which led the negotiations with US finds itself anointing the Taliban regime with no democratically elected members in government. This has witnessed most unforeseen events and Pakistan aiding Taliban and Al Qaeda in their re-emergence.

As if making the US to beg for safely air-lifting its forces back to the US, the Taliban is now holding four planeloads of passengers in Mazar-e-Sharif, refusing to let the planes takeoff. The reason given is that the papers of some of the passengers is incorrect.

Did the US throw away the baby with the bathwater?

Just a few days ago, the United States shared the information of all people who worked with it with the Taliban, hoping the secure a safe exit for these individuals. Surely the Taliban can compare the names with those in the lists and get it clarified with the US?

Indications are that they have not done so. This brings into sharp focus the following uncomfortable questions:

1. Is Taliban re-enacting what Iran did in 1979, holding Americans' hostage?

2. Didn't America just claim that all citizens have left the country?

3. Unless the Biden administration lied through its teeth, surely it should be able to get to the bottom of the matter and get those four planes up and flying? But hours have turned into days and there is no movement on the ground. So, what are we missing?

4. With Taliban breaking promise after promise, how is the US going to respond to the killing of 13 of its soldiers, who were guarding the Kabul airport? The two claims of having killed the perpetrators have been pooh-poohed so the Biden administration definitely owes the American public an explanation; that the 13 soldiers did not die in vain.

PUBLIC Backlash

Biden's ratings as a President are at an all-time low of 39%. As collateral damage, the missteps in Afghanistan could cost the California Governor his job as the recall election is going to be on Sept 14th. We live in interesting times.
