what does jordan think of egypt..
jordan, for as long as he could remember, has needed some source of stability in his life. someone(s) to lean on or to take the reins from his hands when he can’t keep them under control or to just, be there. this has been several figures throughout his life but most recently—and least consistently(?)—palestine, who really did not sign up for this and needs to get back to her people and whom jordan keeps locking in their house because she’s too important to lose, to let get away, both on a personal and impersonal level. but she does get away, and he’s left with an unfilled hole in his life that he can either choose to fill with another (and hold onto tighter to them, lest they too slip form his grip; leave him standing in the unsettled dust alone again), take its place himself, or side-step every time he’s alone with himself. he chooses the former. what are snakes good for if not holding onto things? poisoning them, but that’s irrelevant* for us.
i’ve mentioned egypt’s more. controlling tendencies before and i’ll mention them again because here is someone who wants another to get his life handled for him, who can’t stand to walk knowing there’s nothing to fall back on—nothing to ‘protect’ him from the real world that he must face every day. and here he is at your figurative doorstep, letting you do what others keep refusing despite your good intents and your aid.
but there’s also the whole golden boy thing. jordan has to set the standard, or else who is he—what’s his purpose? he’s the good one; the normaliser, the one that follows the rules, etc etc. but egypt follows these rules, too. egypt has learnt this song and dance just as well as he has. and everyone seems to prefer her version over his. and that’s hardly any good for him. egypt gets him and he confides in her so very much (because their situations are so alike, are they not?), and yet he can’t help but resent her for not letting him have just this one thing.
