In the times #romanticfriendship was socially accepted- if was considered non-sexual because the "lack of penis" meant women couldn't have sex. Therefore her 'virtue' could not be affected and it was seen as a 'warm up' to heterosexual sex, often 'humourous titilation' for men. The more men discovered about #femalesexuality and physical techniques the more seriously #femaleromanticfriendships and lesbianism was taken. Women who used dildos or dressed as men and therefore "assumed the privileges of men" were frequently killed. It really had nothing to do with sex, just to do with male privilege and entitlement to womens bodies. Essentially the more men felt "unnecessary" in their #phallocentric world, the more lesbianism has been demonized.
