hello !! time for a random tennis question™️ coming from yours truly, shapovalovvs 💌

what is your ultimate dream match? you can choose everything: from the players (atp and/or wta, doubles or singles) to the type of surface, the city, the tournament...even the final result!

im gonna be soooo self indulgent here okay bear with me here we go

players: alex eala vs iga swiatek

why? because i want it. and also alex was one match away from facing iga in madrid and im still incredibly mad it didn’t happen. and ALSO so i believe iga was a guest speaker when alex graduated from the nadal academy. like,,, the Narratives there omfg. and as a sidenote, i think alex has some pretty strong ballstriking and i’m very curious to see how it fares next to iga’s!

tournament: us open (hard)

so again, we’ve established that im a total slut for narratives. back in 2022, iga won the women’s title while alex won the girls’ title. SO LIKE it would be soooooo satisfying to see them duke it out at a place where both of them have had success yknow? and also okay let’s assume they face off in the semis or finals (because why not). the thing is, there are SOOOOOOO many filipinos in new york and they would be dying to support a home gal. i just know we could get a great atmosphere there

result: alex wins in 3 sets

im so sorry iga i love you so much but i need my girl to have senior success. i say 2 sets because i feel like if they pushed it to a 3rd, iga’s experience would shine through. anyway this part is still very much a dream tho cause like alex has no serve to speak of lmao realistically iga would fucking batter her. but anyway. yes.

(that ends my rambling but i would like to give an honorable mention to the ff also really cool dream matches: sincaraz doubles, naomiga ao final, hubiga olympic gold in mixed, and iga playing against the atp just for fun)

hmm... in a general sense i love that theres so many players and i love celebrating their achievements at every level. as a sport i love the format, that u have to win the last point, it's not enough to have the most points, its about game point set point match point championship point. this is also the worst thing about tennis

okay so song recommendations omg!!! this is super random but here we gooo

“stepping stone” by brooke alexx (randomly stumbled upon her new album and obsessed tbh)

as for the wta doubles, if im mathing correctly the qualifiers are basically set already. but as for who would win? OOF that is sooooo hard! BUCKLE UP!!!!

the top two seeds are kichenok/ostapenko and dabrowski/routliffe and im ngl uh i haven’t rly watched them much lmao. but between those two, i would think kichenok/ostapenko could get to the final bc 1.) they’re good and 2.) penko is always able to fuck stuff up lmao. dabrowski/routliffe haven’t rly gotten a lot of titles lately so confidence-wise im not too sure how they’re doing

3rd seed is my absolute beloved hsieh/mertens and like!!!!! okay normally i would bet on them butttttt after uso they haven’t been playing much together? they’ve been doing doubles w other partners which is cool and all but i do wonder if they’ll come together at all just to get game time before the finals. plus the added pressure of it being hsieh’s last tournament (😭🙃🔫) might be too big. still, i wouldn’t count them out bc hsieh can make miracles (see: jan z’s 2024 szn lmao) and she might wanna go out with a bang

but rn i would actually place my bets on 4th seeds errani/paolini to win the whole thing! they seem to have rly grown as a team and they’ve gotten a lot of high pressure experience this year

personally though im most curious abt the total wildcard of siniakova/townsend cause like they LITERALLY just qualified bc they won a gs. they barely even played together i mean come onnn! but siniakova is ofc a super duper incredibly experienced doubles girlie and townsend clearly has the skills, so um????? they absoluteeeely could go far and i personally would love to see it
