Chinese History Timeline
There won't be a post this week (sorry, am finishing up a commission atm, should be done soon though), but I did make this Chinese history timeline in advance:
I realized that some dynasty names could be mixed up due to their pinyin being very similar (ex: Qin and Qing dynasty) and some time periods might be confusing because too many things were happening at once, so I thought it would be nice to give a timeline, and everyone could refer to it if needed.
(this timeline is translated from a nice visual I found online)
A personal history of Kingdom Hearts art
Since I've been riddled with nostalgia lately, I thought it might be interesting as well as entertaining to others, to see the gradual evolution of how my KH fanart has progressed through time and along with the series.
There had been various scribbles in notebooks before, but the real start of my fanart journey begins from a piece drawn in early September of 2007, still at the height of the craze following Kingdom Hears II, which I consider to be the first ever real fanart I'd drawn.
2015 - 2018
Here we have a noticeable gap in activity. For around three years I don't blog or publicly post about Kingdom Hearts and am fully occupied in other fandoms even though I still produce fanart for the series steadily. I just simply don't post it anywhere and it remains unseen. Around 2018 I get my first drawing tablet, and it inspires me to start a new sideblog here, on tumblr, called luxmoogle. And so, I start blogging and posting art into the fandom once again, digital enabling a faster pace of producing art.
From around 2022 onwards, I've become a fully digital artist when it comes to KH fanart, because of the ease of producing such art at a much faster pace compared to traditional art. The need to get all my thoughts and concepts out of my head has become a priority, even though I consider traditional and a more methodical way of making art to be more natural to me. The shift to digital has been very interesting and pleasantly challenging, since it requires a whole different approach and thinking than traditional, which I had to that point been doing my whole life. A pattern I only now recognize, is the latest phase, where I've obviously started looking at the piece more as a whole, and less of a character piece with a flattering background. It'll be interesting to see, where my hands and heart take me next.
As long as we're doing Lilo and Stitch discourse, remember this:
Hawaii is stolen land.
1819: christian missionaries arrive in Hawaii. they ban alcohol, gambling, and dancing the hula. white businessmen arrive on the island and begin buying land.
1887: the king is forced at gunpoint to sign a new constitution. absolute monarchy is abolished. Hawaii becomes a constitutional monarchy where the right to vote is mostly exclusive to white men.
1893: coup d'etat. the queen is forced to abdicate. Hawaii becomes a republic. the first governor is a white man, the brother of the owner of Dole fruit company.
1898: with the support of the white government, president William McKinley annexes Hawaii as a US territory. As president, McKinley also annexed Puerto Rico, Guam, the Philippines, and American Samoa.
1901: McKinley is shot to death by anarchist Leon Czolgosz :) :) :)
1954: general strikes and protests against the white plantation owners. HUAC arrests the resistance leaders under the Smith Act for being communists. Nevertheless, the plantation owners are defeated. Voting rights are extended to native Hawaiians.
1959: Hawaii becomes a US state (upgraded from territory) with 93% of the popular vote.
2015: 95% of Hawaii's land is still owned by just 82 landholders :(
It's always awkward for me to draw myself PRE-transition, but it was fairly important for this strip, and the timeline it shows. It is, of course, HIGHLY simplified, skipping over a lot of details. But I think it sums up the feeling that trying to get my stuff out there has generated over the decades. And again, a reminder that you can read this strip in FULL COLOR, and also get awesome, behind-the-scenes art, inking timelapse videos, and MORE, for only $5 a month on PATREON!
