Thalassodaemos

Description: Thalassodaemos has a head resembling a squid’s body, with a shark’s face where the tentacles would be. Its body is very skinny, with little “muscle” mass to speak of. Its arms are also thin with webbed claws on each hand. Its hips are comparatively wide, and it has eight tentacles.

Vitality: The tentacles

Behavior: Thalassodaemos only targets those who have a potential fear of open water. It chooses a person who has strayed far from any other people, then drags them underwater just long enough for them to almost drown, but not quite. Then, it lets them go. The victim will typically not want anything to do with open ocean for up to years after this, but if they eventually work up the courage to swim again. Thalassodaemos will be waiting.

What to do if you encounter it?: Thalassodaemos is one of the few Phantoms that is defeated by not conquering your fear. If you simply never swim in open water, Thalassodaemos will stop caring and find new prey.

Dendromonstrum

Description: Dendromonstrum is a Phantom resembling a tree. It can be any tree, but oaks are most common. They often have “roots” which act more like tentacles and are opposable, and carvings in their trunks which resemble faces.

Vitality: All of the branches

Behavior: Dendromonstrum only targets those with such an extreme fear of it that they actively choose to live in treeless areas (it is in fact one of the lowest ranking Monsters). It will appear to those in such a situation in a form that is unlike any tree that lives in the area. Its victim will try to run, but any second they’re turned around is a second that it can move towards them. When it closes the gap, it will wrap one or more of its roots around them, crushing them, then eating them.

What to do if you encounter it?: These Monstrous trees are still trees, so they are susceptible to anything trees are susceptible to. If you light it on fire, its body will burn up, leaving no trace.

Aeromonstrum

Description: Aeromonstrum is a large Phantom, averaging about 7’, with a roughly 14’ wingspan, and three-toed talons. It has a long tail, and its face is vaguely ape-like, with pointy ears and an underbite.

Vitality: The wings

Behavior: When Aeromonstrum finds someone who fears it, it will pick them up and take them on the journey of their life. It will drop them and pick them up when they’re within feet of the ground and toss them between its talons until they’re thoroughly terrified. When that happens, it’ll drop them from the highest point it can fly, and begin feasting when they hit the ground.

What to do if you encounter it?: Similar to Trypanomonstrum, this Monster has no known way of defeating it. I’ll update this when I find one.

Pyromonstrum

Description: Pyromonstrum is a large, dragon-like Phantom with no wings. It has two horns of varying shape, size, and length, an arrowhead on the tip of its tail, and spikes going down its “spine”. It has the power to breathe fire.

Vitality: The flame sac, located in its throat

Behavior: When Pyromonstrum finds someone who fears it, it’ll thrash them without even the slightest hint of subtlety. Biting them, clawing them, stabbing them with its tail. When the victim is sufficiently beaten, it will torch them until their body is fully cremated.

What to do if you encounter it?: If there’s anything in the world that Pyromonstrum fears, it’s water. It seems to “burn” its skin. Most Pyromonstrum live as far from any body of water as possible, though.

Trypanomonstrum

Description: Trypanomonstrum is a tall Phantom, averaging 5’5’’. Its long arms have 3 fingers on each hand, each one being needle thin. Its legs are long and digitigrade, and its toes are also needle thin. Its tail is long and thin as well.

Vitality: The claws

Behavior: When Trypanomonstrum finds someone who fears it, it will follow them for up to days. When they least expect it, it will cut them with one of its claws. It will be a single small, non lethal cut. When the victim tried to run away, it will chase them on its nimble feet and cut them one or two more times. This repeats until Trypanomonstrum makes bigger, more bloody gashes, at which point, the prey won’t be able to run anymore. At this point, Trypanomonstrum slits their throat and begins feasting.

What to do if you encounter it?: As far as I’m aware, there is no way to defeat Trypanomonstrum. But that doesn’t make much sense, it’s only a Monster after all. I’ll update this when I find a way.

Claustrodaemos

Description: Claustrodaemos is a large Phantom, averaging 6’1’’. It has four feet each facing a different direction, four tentacles-like appendages emerging from its back, and a large, circular torso. Its stomach is open at the front, but it can close at its will. Its face is creepily humanoid, though curiously not having a nose.

Vitality: The head

Behavior: When Claustrodaemos finds someone who fears it, it will stalk them for up to weeks on end. Then when the victim is alone and least expects it, Claustrodaemos will suck them into one of its tentacles. The tentacles are almost too tight to breathe. Almost. Claustrodaemos will kind of “breathe”, allowing the tentacle to expand, possibly to give its victims some hope before stamping it out. When the victim is sufficiently terrified, Claustrodaemos will suck them up into its stomach and digest them.

What to do if you encounter it?: Similar to Nictodaemos, there is no way to deal with Claustrodaemos. It’s too big and too smart to be fooled by anything I can come up with, anyway.

Arachibestia

Description: Arachibestia is a small Phantom, averaging about 3’0’’ on average. Its skin seems to be made entirely of peanut butter, and it is all completely edible. Its head is large compared to its body, and its eyes appear to be two small pits above its large mouth. Its hands and feet don’t appear to have individual fingers or toes.

Vitality: The head

Behavior: When Arachibestia finds someone who fears it, it’ll push them to the ground with its surprising strength, go up to their face, and shove globs of peanut butter into their mouth, so much so that they can’t breathe. If the victim happens to choke on the peanut butter and die, Arachibestia will eat them.

What to do if you encounter it?: If you like peanut butter, you can eat it. Surprisingly, it’s completely edible. If you don’t like peanut butter, it’s pretty easy to beat up. Just be sure to not get hit by it; those peanut butter fists are nothing to sneeze at.

Nictodaemos

Description: Nictodaemos is a large, formless Phantom with black “skin” and white eyes and inner mouth. It has an inky consistency and no legs, its entire lower body being a black puddle on the ground. It has skinny arms with three fingers on each hand. It has the ability to sink into the earth and become the shape of anyone’s shadow, mimicking it almost perfectly. It seems to have two stomachs, an “eating” stomach and a “fear” stomach.

Vitality: The head

Behavior: When Nictodaemos finds someone who fears it, it’ll wait until night time and dim out all sources of light, aside from the moon if it is out. It will then take its prey while it sleeps, covering their mouth with its hand so they cannot scream, smothering them in its ink, and absorbing them into its fear stomach. The ink is not totally dark, and instead, lets in small amounts of light, likely to give the victim some hope of escaping only to stamp it out. When the victim has succumbed to fear, Nictodaemos will absorb them into its eating stomach.

What to do if you encounter it?: As of writing this, there seems to be no way to defeat Nictodaemos. I guess you don’t become the highest ranking normal Phantom by being weak.
