The lighthouse of Alexandria was one of the seven wonders of the Ancient World. It was built on the island of Pharos outside the harbours of Alexandria, Egypt c. 300 - 280 BCE. This lighthouse was also known as the Pharos of Alexandria. It was approximately 450 feet tall. The lighthouse of Alexandria was completely destroyed by earthquakes in the beginning of the 1400s.
