So I was looking at Undertale fanart a while ago, and I thought to myself, “This fandom needs more roleswap AUs.” Which is, admittedly, a somewhat absurd statement on its face, but like, think about it.

You’ve got Underswap, Storyshift, and Altertale, and then… Pretty much nothing else? I mean, obviously there are the swapped and altered versions of those AUs, and presumably at least one AU I don’t know about, but as far as original AUs go, roleswap stuff is pretty thin on the ground.

Which is an absolute tragedy, because roleswap AUs are extremely fun to play with!

So I decided to make one of my own, with the conceit that every character has to be in a role I haven’t seen them in before, (Not counting AUs where one character fills every role, of course, because as much as I love Undynetale it doesn’t really scratch that itch for me.) and that their personalities have to remain close to canon.

I’m tentatively titling this AU “Metanoia” because it sounds cool. The main cast’s roles are as follows:

Papyrus replaces Frisk

Sans replaces Chara

Undyne replaces Toriel

Mettaton replaces Sans

Napstablook replaces Papyrus

Chara replaces Undyne

Frisk replaces Alphys

Alphys replaces Asgore

I’ve got the swaps for the more minor characters pretty hammered out as well, but in the interest of brevity (and giving y’all an incentive to send me asks about it) I’ll leave those a mystery for now.
