"Sunchyme" - Dario G. Take a dance tune. Throw everything into the mix: piano, guitar, steel drums, probably the banging of your old kitchen sink. Make a video with grown dancers wearing animal body paint. Sunny and optimistic and great, great fun.

"Toxygene" - The Orb. Loosely based on Jean-Michel Jarre's "Oxygene 8", in the same way that "Tubthumping" is loosely based on a glass of water. Everything is in the mix: cars, trains, steel drums, probably the banging of your old kitchen sink. Sounded like it would boss the planet when it escaped from the clubs, and completely unlike anything else they've ever released.
"Bellissima" - DJ Quicksilver. 1997 dance music could be quite simple at times: take a beat, and layer things on top. DJ Quicksilver provided a perfect example in how to do it, literally constructing "Bellissima" as we listen.

"Ameno" - Era. Pre-millennium tension was A Thing. How else can one explain the success of Georgian Chant; the simple plainsong, unaccompanied vocals to a sort-of tune had been marketed to yuppies a few years earlier. Now dance producer Eric Lévi took this type of ancient vocalisation and set it to a banging beat. The words are made up, the lyric is meaningless, the video is a CBBC production in miniature. Huge across Europe, and later re-interpreted by DJ Quicksilver.

"Stay" - Sash! ft La Trec. The year's most consistent hitmakers churned out high energy pop, this time with a superb soul vocal. The trancey dance melody would have worked on its own, La Trec's belting adds the cherry on the top. Still got no idea what the video's blithering on about.
